ok some im haveing a few problems with my starter 20seh/f16cr

it used to turn over fine then all ove a sudden it started clicking, i removed it and connected it up with come jump leads and it works fine

put it back in the car and it clicks but will sometimes turn over, im guessing its an earthing problem

there are 3 connections on my starter, 1 for the big power cable 1 for the switched live to engage the solenoid and the other one has like a braided wire on it that connect strait to the starter from the solenoid

how does the starter earth out? through its mounting bolts to the box? or do i need to run a seperate earth cable if so where from?

thanks

try at the earth from the chassis to gear box first unbolt clean it up rebolt and go from there would be my best bet

cant find the book dads probably hid it lol but if i rember correctly your testing the ohms from the battery to the earth lead and should be under <1.00 but really around 0.5 or less will confirm this when i find my book or if someone else can correct me or agree would be good

This is what i would do too, you want a small resistance value

Mk1 earth at the gearbox to chassis leg.
Mk2 earth to the starter bolts , brown leads from battery

Could be as simple as a knackard starter , will spin fine out of car but , when it has to turn the fly it's just not good enough I've had my fair share like that over the years

well i think ive figured it out

if i connect a jump lead to the + on the battery then connect the other end to the big connector on the starter it starts perfectly

if i disconnect the jump lead but still leave the wire connected on the starter it just clicks or sometimes starts

dodgy loom?

dodgy wiring, dodgy starter, dodgy ign switch, dodgy connection flat battery... unfortunately it could be anything
