View Full Version : door pin removet tool
Can someone please tell me which size I need to buy or better yet a eBay link to the right tool as there are loads on there and not sure which ones would be any good thanks alot
Bonnet stay or some round bar and a hammer. Much more effective.
I used they search which said that was a ball ache and doesn't work proper
Whoever said that is talking sh!t tbf.
If you're set on a door pin removal tool, the Draper one fits Nova (and Volvo 360 lol) door pins, but is inferior to a length of straight bar for me.
Won't kill me to try the bonnet stay really will give it a try and hate you if it don't work lol

i welded about 6in of bonnet stay to an old screw driver and job done, it takes me longer to remove a wing than it does a door
i currently have no bonnet stay because of this, works a treat though lol

Aye, I have an old screwdriver the same somewhere. When I removed the Volvo's doors, which are touted as being much much harder than an already difficult Nova, I used threaded bar as it's all I had. Still off in <5 mins per side.

So do I just cut the bonnet stay where it is straight then hit the pin out?

yes, the only reason i welded it to a screw driver is so i had a bigger area to aim for when hammering as my hand-to-eye co-ordination can be somewhat shocking at time lol

i did hit my door a few times but was being prepped for paint at the same time so wasnt to fussed lol

That gets the bottom one out too. You're meant to hit that up from the bottom, but I found you can drive it out of the hinge on the shell which gives enough clearance to lift the door off, then remove the pin with a pair of mole grips. lol
wish i'd known this a few years ago, I bought the draper tool and seriously took 3 hours to remove 2 doors, the tool was well knackered by the time I had finished, when it came to the donor car, the tool actually broke by the final 2 pins. we got one knocked out but the other, my dad kust grinded off the whole hinge!
Been a while since I've removed a door, but I thought the top looped over stopping you from hitting something straight down?
I was very pleased with the tool, allows you to pull the bottom pin upwards also.
Just done it now and it was easy, I had soaked them in wd40 for the last few days, kept the bonnet prop long, did them both with one long piece thanks for the help +rep thanks
the articles section has a 'how to'.

when i removed my doors of my corsa stock car donor shell i struggled removing the pins so just got out the 9 inch grinder and cut the hinges off, mind u i did know the doors wouldnt be going back on again altho i did try spend about two minutes tring remove the pins wen i saw the grinder sitting there waiting lol
most of the trouble is down to pin wear. it you put a rag on a trolley jack & use it to support the far end of the door & take the weight, the pins come out easier
