Has anybody ever used one of these 'kits'? Thinking about a set of adjustable front shocks with these conversion tubes for the front of the chevette...

yep, converted my group A bilsteins on my nova (as the inserts are removeable)

They all say weld on, wouldn't that have some sort of effect on the gas/fluid in the shock?

BOOM lol

I don't fancy welding them

I dare say it's been done ( I remember an old thread) I'd get some Darwin nominee to do it for me

Usually the inserts bolt in at the bottom, these other kits actually weld onto the stutt body to give you the thread and platforms, I don't like the idea but as they are a fraction of the cost of billstien inserts I can see why folk look at them

There seems to be a good few videos on you tube showing conversions with no welding required,

The method of leaving the bit of weld round the strut to sit the sleeve on? Can't do this on the chevette the fronts are separates much like the rear of a nova/corsa etc

Nova rears look very similar, getting springs is easy but rear nova coilovers with bound/rebound to suit a front set up might be harder, this is my bilstiens for my nova

The rears look spot on for your front?

Edit, just thinking about space for the top spring plate, iirc my springs are 2 1/2 inch, but don't quote me as I haven't looked at them for a bloody long time lol

On the nova group A bilstein shocks the pressurised insert is removeable, leaving an empty steel casing to weld the threaded section onto.
(think mk3 cav, calibra, mk2/3 astra, 106, saxo type front shocks, similar idea)

But if the chevette shocks are one piece, the mentioned kits are no good.

Eh no, you don't weld group A stuff gary, the group A inserts are as they say, inserts, the tubes tubes they insert into can not be welded onto standard shocks ( check my pics ) the kit I have is gen group A bilstein group A parts.

The DIY kits have a hollow tube that can slip over normal McPherson Struts after the coil sping platform has been cut off, these are 2 different types of set up, please show what your set up is as novas do not run inserts like mk2 astras.
