I have to be honest, all the years i ran twin 40's on my old 8v i never ran a return. As seen in the following pic....

isnt there just an outlet on the carbs themselves?

hi no there is no outlet on the carbs just the feed in ,did you run a low pressure regulator on yours or just straight from the pump ?

My old setup consisted a facet red top pump which pumped into a filter king regulator then onto the carbs Filter king is visible in top right behind wiper motor.

45's are quite extreme for this engine, the spec must be mighty impressive :)

its a 1650 block with a big valve head with solid lifters double valve springs and a kent nvo83 cam. i guess you blanked off the return pipe at the tank on yours?

mine is blanked off, i left a bit pipe on the inlet to the tank and stuck a bolt in the end then used a hose clip to hold it tight

thats nothing i had a wide arched shell with a custom cage fitted back in 2000 sold it then bought it back from a lad that never used it as a rolling shell, so if my wife leaves my bank account alone im going to get it finished this year lol ?

Best way is to run a facet pump (redtop preferably with 45's) with a fuel regulator (filter king preferably to combine the regulator and filter for better packaging into the small area you have) and there's no need to run a return at all as the pressure should be small enough when set correctly that the needle valves in the carbs can stop the flow and mediate its flow.
