C20XE oil grade ?

Hello, havnt posted in a while but im having some problems with the oil temperature on my 20xe nova, its got a mocal 13 row cooler on it and im using GM 10w40 semi synthetic oil. Problem is on a long run at a medium to fast pace when i come to a hault the lifters are tapping. When i checked the oil it was very very thin, was just wondering what oil grade other people are using?

I'm using the same GM semi 10/40, takes as much hammer on the road as you can give it without thinning too much, although I've suffered temperatures rising on track. Running a Mocal 10 row.

Get yourself a temp gauge on it?
