i have just become the proud owner of a 1987 vauxhall nova 1.3sr

i was just saying hello and wondering what the best 1st things to do to it

keep it as standard as possible with subtle mods :) gone are the days with big jap kits and 18" wheels

it looks a clean shell too so your starting well

my first mod i always do is lower the car with either shocks and springs or coilovers

remember when you change something on the car it may also increase your insurance

keep it pretty much standard for the moment, tidy up what you've got, and it will only go up in value. a mk1 sr in std form is rare.

there is a fair bit of tuning that you can do to a 1.3, but if you are young, the std 70hp will make it go well enough

well im 18 and ive got my driving test on january the 18th.
it is completely standard and solid with 66,000 miles and 1 owner from new who was 95 when he sold it to me

Looks nice. As everyone else has said keep it as standard as possible with maybe a little drop 40mm / 60mm. But whatever you do make sure it can be changed back to standard because if you come to sell, it will be worth alot more standard. Oh, and it's nice to see someone close to me as I never see any Nova's around...

you will need a mk2 astra inlet manifold or adapter plate to fit that. its a good upgrade, but you can pick them up a lot cheaper than that 2nd hand :)

I would suggest as others have to keep her standard, if you make any changes I would make them reversible.

As you are a youngster;)(I'm 45 next month:roll:) keeping her stock would be adviseable.

I like period mods myself, I am converting my 1.3SR to Irmscher multipoint injection from Sport Forties.

This how much it cost? Absolute bargain then if it's as solid as it looks. I would keep it standard, get it mint and look forward to the days when it's worth a good few K lol A 1.3 SR will probably be the most sought after nova imo.

Absolute bargain!! I would also just lower the suspension by around 40mm and put upgraded shocks on it then imo it would be done :thumb:

Your car is the same colour as this, Monaco Blue. Only the last of the snowplough SR's were available in this colour.

Classic insurance dosent carry ncd and the car usually has to be a second vehicle so you have to have another policy and also there is usually a minimum age of 21

You should maybe get a pass plus certificate and keep you annual milage low? In 1999 it cost me £750 to insure my 1.3sr and only earned £80 per week working 39hrs! Oh and the car cost £1500. I was skint as f**k that year!!

its grey/burberry and ive borght another parcel shelf to cut holes so orginal is being put away and im not putting door speakers in it but the drivers seat has a rip in it is it possible to get a new seat cover or another seat if their not that expensive

Best bet for parcel shelf if your thinking of 6X9s or similar would be to make one out of MDF (as thick as possible). Just draw round your old parcel shelf on the MDF and cut it to shape and allow for acoustic carpet thickness. The tighter the better so it doesn't rattle when you pump the tunes up! I mounted my 6X9s underneath the MDF shelf and put acoustic carpet over the top of the shelf so no thieving b***ards could see them and bought carpet the same colour so the shelf blended in.

Whoops forgot to say you have to cut slightly smaller holes in you new shelf (10mm smaller all round). The tighter and thicker the shelf should give you more bass!!

i get £189 a week so thats £1890 a lot less than £2300

Definitely add anyone you can (mum and dad are a good bet) as named drivers. a lot of people do it where their mum is the main driver but this is illegal and doesnt gather no claims. I used money supermarket with my dad and brother as named drivers, 19 with no no claims, came to £1220 on my 1.0 saloon, on a 1.2 it wouldve been £1500. Thats the best advice i have for you buddy, good luck! hope the insurance companies dont raep you too hard..

probably astra mk3 236mm vents with ate calipers. as the later 256mm can have clearance issues on the sr alloys, apparently there are 2 different versions of the alloys & only one version fits.

You can grind down the 256 brakes to fit apparently, but I wouldn't do it myself lol

The 3 spokes came in 2 offset sizes, the 47.5 ET ones fit over the Astra gte brakes ( 256 discs ) the 49 ET ones don't, the ET is marked on the face of the wheel, you see it when you remove the centre cap.
