Here we go! I hope Pictures will work now. :)

A long time ago in a country far, far away....

I had a nice litte white MK2 Nova GSi wich i bought to keep it tidy and clean. But as these stories go... there was a crash:cry: Some idiot drove on my lane, i managed to avoid a crash with the oncomming car but crashed with a curb.

After i got my car back

The whole Shell was bent
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_9558.jpg

So i bought a "new" Nova
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_9639.jpg

nearly 190k miles, old, rusty, worn out
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_9620.jpg

http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_9650.jpg

the interior was really disgusting, so i changed nearly all parts wich resulted in this:

Bought a 4-2-1 exhaust manifold
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_0395.jpg

Made some "wide arch" front wings
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_0430.jpg

and spend a lot of time make a oil-temp-gauge-holder :d
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_0427.jpg

A friend of mine tried to find out what color my car was painted, but he failed, the color wasnt GM or some other make. So i decided to paint it matt black with blackboard paint :d

http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_2270.jpg

wich resulted in this:
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_d0528.jpg

http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_d0552.jpg

The engine started to make knocking noises, wich came from the conrods. after just 10 miles one of the rods decided to give up :(
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_0897b.jpg

the conrods were then replaced by some steel rods and my car was prepard to take on the Nurburgring. And the engine started again make some strange knocking noises after 1.5 laps. So i went home (400 miles) with an engine that sounded like it would fall apart any minute.

After that i thougt it would be a good idea to rebuild the engine bay.
So i got the grinder out and started to take the car apart. :d
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_3524b.jpg

and there was rust... a lot of rust
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_3554b.jpg

i started to rebuild every little bit that was rusty
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_3597b.jpg

http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_3605b.jpg

http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_3614b.jpg

new front, including strengthening plates and removable top.
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_2608b.jpg

http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_3641b.jpg

more engine bay rebuilding and stich welding.
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_3672b.jpg

ExTrEmeOc
25-12-11, 07:06 PM
Made my own strengthening plates
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_3755b.jpg

and welded them to the shell
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_3790b.jpg

http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_3798b.jpg

after that i made my own custom lower strut brace
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_4457b.jpg

http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_4472b.jpg

and finished the engine bay by using some special bodyshell adhesive
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_4608b.jpg

http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_4598b.jpg

then it was time for new parts:
Quick rack
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_4628b.jpg

alloy top mounts
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_4852b.jpg

battery box
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_4847b.jpg

ExTrEmeOc
25-12-11, 07:20 PM
And there should be color! :d so thats what we did, with the help of a friend the engine bay got a new lick of paint.
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_4722b.jpg

we towed the car about 10 miles to get to a place with a compressor so we could paint the engine bay.
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_4962b.jpg

http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_4968b.jpg

http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_4987b.jpg

like new.... i love it :thumb:
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_5018b.jpg

towed back home by an astra gsi :d
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_5059b.jpg

reassembling in progress
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_5095b.jpg

top mounts set to give a little more caster and camber
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_5166b.jpg

converted to internal shifter

25-12-11, 07:41 PM
On a rainy day i wanted to know why my engine was knocking so i took i apart and found that one bearing was completely worn out
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_5221b.jpg

even the crankshaft was far from a good condition
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_5198b.jpg

so i started from ground with a new engine block :-/
while my engine block was rebuild i was going on to continue improve my nova shell :)

I dindt like the MK2 look anymore so i turned it into a MK1.. with even wider selfmade front wings muahahaha and a new bumper.
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_5429b.jpg

http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_5506b.jpg

looks like a hillclimb car

got myself some new wishbones from a corsa B because they are 1cm wider than the nova ones. That means 2 cm more track :thumb:
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_5711b.jpg

for that i had to get new polybushes for a corsa B and trim them to fit the nova
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_8018b.jpg

perfect
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_8020b.jpg

after fitting them i wanted to know how much camber i could run... as it turned out: A LOT :d
left: nearly original
right: massive camber
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_5740b.jpg

both sides with the slight camber adjustment lol
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_5742b.jpg

woah the thread seems to start very mildly, innocent; rookie-like..
-then, very quickly, - shazam! - professional quality work oozes everywhere.

Handy chap with the bodywork and modifying. Work looks good by the companies too.

Where did you get this manifold from?Bought it from ebay Germany, dont know any facts about it, theres no factory plate or something that would say who made it.

Had to change the Bumper, for Road use the Mattig bumper is a bit conspicuous
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_8360b.jpg

it was time to drive it a little bit so great chance to grab some pictures

http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_8413c.jpg

and the steering geomatry had to be done
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_8460b.jpg

i decided to run -3° camber ...yeah you read right :d it was possible to run nearly -5°!!
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_8470b.jpg

and then.....

... the impossible happend. A few days later, engine had no power and started knocking  i was gutted. not again!!

i ripped out the engine on the same day it "broke".
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_8509b.jpg

at the end of the day i had a car without an engine :(
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_8515b.jpg

some days late some new parts arrived i just ordered
new mocal oil cooler
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_8519b.jpg

air vents and tubes for brake ventilation
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_8523b.jpg

and adjustable cam pulley i couldnt use :(
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_8527b.jpg

I was fed up! some much spent money for a few miles driving....

A friend of mine converted his Corsa B to C20XE so he had a X16XE left wich i could have for free. Big Thanks to him!
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_8531b.jpg

So the next engine was delivered to my poor little nova
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_8535b.jpg

and i began to prepare the engine to take place in the nova. I used the lightened flywheel and clutch from my 8V engine and pulleys from a C16SE.

throttle cable
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_8673b.jpg

I used the speed sensor from a C14NZ which wasn't a wise desicion.
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_8613b.jpg

then i started to prepare the engine loom. nice little after-work-activity :d

I've seen your nova on corsaforum.deI never thougt someone outside germany/switzerland/austria would read my thread at corsaforum.de

Have you posted a spec of the engine yet?Nope, but it's pretty standard. Just a little higher compression ratio than original. But that will change soooooooon!

so heres the last of my posts, as it is the nearest to the current date.
converted my rear breaks to dics with the m-tech conversion-kit.

did you ever have the e16se dyno'd? any spare bits left over?unfortunately not, the engine never ran long enough to test how much bhp it produced.
there are a lot pieces left over... for example the whole cylinder head wich im going to sell.

great thread and good to see someone keeping the faith, patiences and commitment to see the car through to what you want. some people give up far to easily. but the best bit is getting what you need from it. the fun factor.

I think its not just the driving that makes it fun. working on the car gives a a sepcial kind of satisfaction, like "i done so much, i'm going to do some more, even if theres a setback, i can do this" .....i hope that doesn't sound exaggerated lol

So i went on today.
In switzerland your car has to be checked by our local MOT every two years. So my time is up and my car has to go back to road legal. First thing to to is replace the engine with the original C16SEi that was in this nova.

http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_4975c.jpg

so i got on to disassemble the engine bay ...once again lol
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_4976c.jpg

and got the engine out.

what did you use to raise it ?i used a aluminium tube approx 12mm in diameter that was big enough for a 8mm screw, then cutted the tube in 4 pieces to the disired lenght and screwed the baseplate, together with the tubes, to the shifter.
After that i filled the empty space with filler. It would be maybe better to use fiberglass rather than filler, the way i did it isnt the best solution.

and your English is very goodi'm trying hard to blend in lol

First turn the water pipes by 180 degrees so the end faces to the right.

Then fitted the plastic cover and linked the pipes.

After that i had to elongate the existing wires for the washer pump.
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_5003c.jpg

and mounted it to the engine.
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_5552c.jpg

the leads for the throttle position sensor was too short, therefore i cutted the leads...
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_5554c.jpg

... and elongated them
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_5561c.jpg

nice clearance to the throttle linkage
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_5565c.jpg

after that i installed the new camshafts
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_5584c.jpg

and made a special EGR blanking plate to fool the ECU :d I have milled a groove into it so the engine now gets fresh air instead of exhaust gases.
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_5593c.jpg

i redesigned the bracket for the idle speed valve provided by dbilas
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_5591c.jpg

so it is more compact and could mounted to the inlet manifold

I cant believe you have to place your original engine back into the car for your "MOT" that crazy!I would be possible to get it legal even in Switzerland, but for me its way to expensive and i dont plan to use this car on the road. I just want it MOT tested so i can do little test drives around the block.

Will that EGR blank work properly?Sort of. I works much better than just blanking it completely. i takes a lot longer for the ECU to recognise that there's a problem. If you drive normally the ECU is perfectly fooled, if you floor it a few times (>5000rpm) then the ECU is complaining.

the plastic shell for the wires was now completely useless
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_5623c.jpg

what a mess of wires and hoses :d
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_5626c.jpg

with the throttle bodies you need to lower the alternator
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_5661c.jpg

As i run a 8V alternator, the bracket wich is holding it was to long :-/
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_5669c.jpg

a few days later my Nova was MOT tested. Now i've got 2 years till the next MOT, but i think it will reach a point wheres no turning back and it will become a racecar.

Anything over 100bhp in nova is scary, as you soon realise the steering wheels on the piss, you have a thin skin of tin between you and the road (an other cars) you touch both sides the car with no effort wen sat inside, the windscreen is almost touching your face! lol there so comical its ace!

Only the original mini is smaller then a Nova, i bet smart cars are wider! lol

Too much overpriced and overrated dilbert tat

Not every country provides the law and regulations to use a TB setup like Jenvey, SBD or something like that. Maybe its overpriced for you and not as good as others, but at least you're able to get it road legal in Germany and maybe even in Switzerland (if you got enough money :d). So for that purpose it's the only decent thing you can get over here.

Sure, if im going to convert my Nova into a full racecar i would definitely choose a TB setup you can get in GB :thumb:

Had a little problem with the cooling, so i dismantled the cylinderhead.
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_6142c.jpg

At first the problem seemed small. The headgasket let the exhaust gases in to the cooling circuit.
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_6144c.jpg

massive cooling water consumption at the third cylinder.
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_6156c.jpg

At the cylinderhead the problem was way more obvious :wtf:
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_6150c.jpg

So i grabbed some abrasive paper wich resulted in this:
there was a groove with a, at least, 0.5mm depth
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_6152c.jpg

A mate of mine had a spare x16xe and a cylinderhead he didn't need. So he gave them to me for free -> big thanks to him!

http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_6259c.jpg

to get an idea how to mount it i placed it unter the car and realised it could be easely welded to the original mounting point.
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_6269c.jpg

so this will be my solution: cut out the shape of the bracket and weld it together

on a nice sunny saturady i changed the differential.
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_6277c.jpg

http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_6289c.jpg

Had to hold the crown wheel with a vise-grip wrench to loosen the screws, otherwise the differential wont come out.
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_6299c.jpg

my self made strut brace was blocking the way out :tard: ...easy differential removing wasnt in my design :d

original differential dismounted
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_6307c.jpg

the removal of the speedo gear was a bit tricky but with two flat screwdrivers i was able to do it.
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_6312c.jpg

and to get it mounted to the quaife differential i placed it in very hot water to expand it a little bit.
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_6319c.jpg

after that it was a piece of cake to get it mounted.

unfortunately i had no oil... because i didn't want to stress myself to get it finished at the end of the day, so i had to wait a few days to drive it.

i wanted to know if it is possible to convert the dbilas throttle bodies to open air horns.

and yes it's possible, in fact very easily.

i used the hose that was provided by dbilas an cut it to fit around the air horns
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_6451c.jpg

that then could put together with the house of the throttle body
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_6452c.jpg

and mounted to the TB

now i'm very pleased with the way this looks
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_6469c.jpg

but for safety reasons i needed to get an air filter around it.

i had to cut out a piece of the baseplate so it wouldn't hurt the waterhose
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_6495c.jpg

made 4 holes with a 51mm hole saw

drilled a hole for the air temperature sensor
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_6507c.jpg

i had to assemble the whole thing before mounting it to the engine because there isn't much space in the engine bay.

Please please please mount the front rose joints in the verticleplane as they will move/twist if you weld them to the front bracket as your picture shows.

I do not quite understand, you think it will push the bracket towards the middle of the car?

It'll twist the x member down. Have a look for jonlem's thread selling rose jointed parts like you have and see what happened with joints the same as yours.

also, i think you should remove the old mount & fit these direct to the chassis, or you risk limiting the adjustment.

runs a lot smoother when the engine is cold and i think the torque has moved a bit to the lower revs. but thats just my feeling ;)

Just mont them vertically at the front, you might get away with it then. Otherwise you need normal bearings in there like jonlem's kit.

You don't have to mount the RJ's vertically on the front crossmember - the stress is at the other end of the bar:-

http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_6259c.jpg

To the point where I don't like the look of that clevis - especially given you're on 205 width cut slicks with an LSD; I've bent something of a similar thickness on road tires & open diff from cornering. IF you do run them and you find the steering wheel goes out after hard braking / cornering then be aware you've bent one.

When thinking about welding them on, measure the distances VERY carefully as they're designed to allow some scope for greater castor - so the midpoint of adjustment should be similar to o.e length. Also they should be ideally welded on so at rest, they sit parallel with the ground.

A good build overall and I like the approach you have.

more than i was presented with.

Really huge build, i recently built up my track car but mine is a very low spec and cost but, I sympathise with the having to make your own washers etc. I even had to improvise my own wiper mechanism (from a corsa B) to get through an MOT.

I am no expert on steering but I suspect it will be the camber and also without being patronising, as you have changed the track ends and so on, the tracking is probbaly miles out.

Keep going though, a massive and unusual build.

1. Timed run

I was disillusioned, I didn't know where the fault was, I didnt know how much time it took for me to drive the course, but it felt slow.
At least i could drive 3 times so maybe there's potential to improve.

Not again, i forgot to turn on the onboard camera
I had made a massive mistake and would like to know what happened :wtf:, but i had no video footage. At the end i thought i had figured it out how to drive and was way too fast for the last bend.

The car always needs to be loaded to make use of it's tyres, so if you accelerate hard towards an apex, brake heavily at the latest point possible, let off a little to turn in... this holds all the weight onto the front end, it's like free downforce for your steering. As you found out acceleration gives a good pull through a bend so that's your next step, accelerate through the apex. The physics of that I've never understood because it should load up the rear and make you understeer like a pig but never does lol

Are you running the coilovers very low (on the bump stops)? And what spring rates are you running? The coilovers are approx 2cm higher than the road legal minimum, so shouldn't be on the bump stop. The springs are as im aware: 50 n/mm. Not very hard, for sporty road use.

Hi There!

I've been busy lately and i got some spare time so.. let the writing begin :d

Because you can get in very big trouble for not having a catalytic converter under your car in switzerland (loosing your driving licence and so on) and i wanted to improve the exhaust system i decided to switch to a cheap and hopefully little more effective solution.

I wanted to replace the original cat...
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_7364c.jpg

..with a C20XE cat.
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_7372c.jpg

Therefore i had to cut the exsiting Manifold in pieces.
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_7376c.jpg

some adjustments with the "new" cat.
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_7379c.jpg

made a new pipe for mounting after the catalytic converter with a much bigger diameter
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_7382c.jpg

welded everthing that had to be welded and monuted it to the car
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_7396c.jpg

http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_7400c.jpg

unfortunately it didn't make a big difference... at least i tried

Then i started to make the mountig points for the CV-Joint Suspension.
I tested if it would have been possible to weld the mountings vertically but that wouldn't work because the angle for the tie bars was bigger than it would allow.

...so horizontal it is!
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_7421c.jpg

before welding
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_7425c.jpg

On the tiebar brackets would you be better boxing the other side in too to match the bent side?

i decided to make my own subframe wich connects the tiebar and tca's to stiffen everything a little bit more.

good choice with the kms and risse-motorsport and nice corsa. :)

thanks... or in a more familiar language: Danke! :d i think it would be better for you to check my thread at corsaforum.de ;)

KMS is an excellent choice. A guy local to me sells loads of them and uses KMS in his own cars/on his own motorbikes to great effect.

And... it's Dutch! :thumb::thumb::thumb::thumb::thumb::thumb: ;)

@ novasport: Here you go http://www.streetridez.net/index.php?Function=Preview&picID=57191

I've been busy over the last few weeks so here are the results of what i was up to. :)

Because the camshaft sensor is no longer needed i grinded the reference points of. This would maybe reduce some mass that otherwise has to be moved..... unlikley i know lol
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_7611c.jpg

and mounted
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_7615c.jpg

The bracket for the throttle position sensor had to be slightly modified because it wasn't possible to put the plug on the TPS.
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_7616c.jpg

problem solved
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_7623c.jpg

To get a first impression what needed to be done i layed out some wires including a standard C16SEi loom which i needed to cut apart.
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_7625c.jpg

I had to reuse the fuel relay...
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_7627c.jpg

...and the connector for connecting to the standard nova loom.
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_7628c.jpg

joined them together including a piece of KMS loom
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_7629c.jpg

after some fiddling with the loom i managed to lay out the cables
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_7630c.jpg

ExTrEmeOc

to keep the water, oil, fuel or whatever out of the car i used the plug from the SEi loom.
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_7632c.jpg

and after some hours i had the right lenghts for all the cabels.
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_7633c.jpg

after that i had to fit the ECU connector, therefore i had to cut all the cables to the same length.
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_7638c.jpg

The KMS wiring diagram is very easy to understand (at least for me :tard:) so ist wasn't that difficult to wire everything up.
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_7642c.jpg

finished
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_7645c.jpg

two 'n half hours later i had myself a nice little engine loom
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_7649c.jpg

ExTrEmeOc
19-08-12, 03:16 PM
I fitted the loom to the engine and put on the ignition.
I was suprised it came already mapped with a mapping for a C20XE

Ignition map
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/KMS-Ign.jpg

Fuel map
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/KMS-Inj.jpg

I made a short system check and everything seemed fine, so i sorted out the little stuff that needed to be done.

for example i had to make a temporary solution to connect the adjustable fuel pressure regulator. not pretty but it works :)
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_7650c.jpg

the first try to start the engine failed and shortly afterwards i was forced to take a brake because it began to rain :wtf:
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_7653c.jpg

After the brake i began to find the solution to start my engine.
i checked:
ignition -> no fault
injection -> no fault
set the fuel regulator to 2.5 bar -> not the solution
cables -> positive lead for lambdasensor not connected .... shame on me :wall:
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_7654c.jpg

but that wasn't the solution... so i searched on. At least i had now a A/F ratio signal
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/KMS-Fehler.jpg

i checked nearly every wire for a fault.
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_7655c.jpg

just out of curiosity i thought i might switch the iginition leads 1+4 and 2+3

after a short spin from the starter motor the engine fired and climed to 3000rpm. Unfortunately it began to rain once again. So i packed my stuff and called it a day.

One day after the successful start the skies cleared and i moved on to work on my nova

tided up the engine bay
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_7662c.jpg

and made some adjusments on the ecu
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/KMS-1st-run0.jpg

first start was very rough. the idle was very low for the cold engine
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/KMS-1st-run1.jpg

i adjusted the idle to get a higher rpm
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_7669c.jpg

1700rpm ... a bit high :d
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/KMS-1st-run2.jpg

As the water temperature climbed up a continuous lowered the idle speed to about 1200rpm

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WM9v-wZrgDg

Then i had to calibrate the throttle position sensor.
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/KMS-1st-run6.jpg

after all adjustemnts in the ecu that had to be done i decided to do the first testdrive. i was a bit nervous as i stepped into the car. As i was on the driveway i nearly put in reverse and parked the car. Luckely i choosed to drive on :)

short stop to make a idle check and grab a picture
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_7672c.jpg

over all the first testdrive was a success.

Thanks! I'm trying hard to get as much as possible done by myself. I learned alot about the inner workings of the engine just by reading the KMS manual and see the effects it has.

But shortly after that the engine began to behave very strage. After 2 weeks i found the Problem: The brand new KMS Ignition Coil was faulty and managed to mess up my whole mapping.

I replaced it by the original GM Coil which works just as fine.
Therefore i soldered the GM connector to the loom.
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_7865c.jpg

Here you can see how much was upset due to the damaged Coil. As it turned out it was a lot more upset then this picture shows. Every red bit is corrected.
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/KMS-Map2.jpg

Here the fuel map after some corrections made by the lambdasensor.
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/KMS-Map3.jpg

Special thanks to Marcel (http://www.pngclub.com/forum/showthread.php?188128-Corsa-%28Nova%29-from-germany) for his help to find my Problem and supporting me! :thumb:

Then its was time to improve the little things.

For easy access to the ecu, i made a hole where i could connect the lead permanently to the ecu.
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_7876c.jpg

The lead ends now in the glove compartment for easy plug and play.
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_7879c.jpg

And i made a custom shiftlight by myself.

4 LED's an a 270 ohm resistor soldered together
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_7888c.jpg

drilled 4 holes for the LED's in to the speedo cover.
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_7890c.jpg

perfect
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_7894c.jpg

The first test for the Shiftlight was made with the throttle position sensor. When the Sensor passed the value "10" the light had to go on.
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/MKS-Shiftlight.jpg

small updates!

Because i converted to Astra 16V rear disc brakes i went to a local garage to test them.
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_0459e_zps09538b99.jpg

Front Brakes are perfect, 2.2kN
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_0467e_zpsd9419ddd.jpg

buuuut the rear brakes were more than out of range :(
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_0491e_zps32f05f2e.jpg

i encountered a leak at the front left brake so i decided to thighen the screw...
bad luck... it sheared off
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_0473e_zps695a8040.jpg

new screw and i was back in business.
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_0475e_zpsbd9616ec.jpg

i tried to get the rear brake fixed there but failed and the garage wanted to close, so i had to go home without fixed rear brake.

at home i finished the exterior with racing mesh
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_0495e_zpsb35299ab.jpg

4 screws and 2 minutes later, the wings are off...

after that i went to get my wheel alignment done.
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_9019e_zps7f6f0e39.jpg

i was a bit nervous because i hoped to get at least 3 degrees of castor with all my modifications. My eyes nearly popped out after i saw how much castor i gained

Left castor 8°43' / Right castor 7°20' ....maybe consider to convert to rear wheel drive lol
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_9015e_zpse73c843f.jpg

...nearly there
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_9018e_zps49af9455.jpg

final settings, something was wrong with the machine the right castor wasn't that high.
Camber: L -1°55' / R -1°'54
Castor: L 4°32' / R ~4°30'
Track: L 0°00' / R 0°00'
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_9026e_zps3a9a15ac.jpg

a week later and much mincing around with the rear brakes i went again to test them.
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_9028e_zps94b2852c.jpg

again the right brake wouln't brakes as much as i wanted, so i decided at least to get them balanced
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_9033e_zps117cab69.jpg

then i changed the left mirror (right mirror not done yet)...
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_9040e_zps1764e8dd.jpg

..to the stubby one.
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_9048e_zpsf605ccb0.jpg

i removed the right mirror an blanked it off.
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_9053e_zpsf60903c3.jpg

not symetrical but no need for a second mirror at the moment :)
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_9057e_zps29be8976.jpg

at the same time i removed the passenger seat... no need for that either, thats just unnecessary weight.

Here we go, racing time!
It was a nice warm sunday in the heart of switzerland. Toasty 28° degrees lol
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_9085e_zps5d99314a.jpg

Scrutineering, at 12:30 the car was checked if its safe to drive.
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/slalomybrig13002_zps3d304f6c.jpg

1. Training run

I was not only surprised, i was just overwhelmed. The car pulled in all directions, the grip was enormous and I hardly knew how to steer and when to brake. The first half I survived with litte oversteer and a huge portion of luck.

after 35 seconds into my run, my luck ran out and i rammed two pylons. :d

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Ulps-UGPXg

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L8xlTdgQEFU

you can hear the pylons at 0:55 in the onboard video. Time for this run 1min 00:?? This was faster than last years fastest run (1min 01:11)

2. Training run

After a brief look at the damage and a little tape repair i went back to the start.

The run was cleaner and easier, the rear axle was very nervous and unpredictable but i could handle it. Unfortunately i forgot to turn on the onboard camera, at least theres a spectator view video.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kLlzKgFPejg
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kLlzKgFPejg

Time for this run 59:?? ...was was getting faster.

1. Timed run

Now it was getting serious, my goal was just to get my car unharmed to the finish.
i tried to drive full throttle as much as possible and my shiftlight let me know i had to change gear lol

just spectator view for this run too.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dZaCITuXm_8

Time for this run 58:41 Seconds

ExTrEmeOc
23-06-13, 04:08 PM
2. Timed run

The grip can be deceiving, I slowly knew how to handle the vehicle and then came the point of overconfidence. In the second 180 ° turn I was too fast and had to fight with understeer, but this could be eliminated in the middle of the curve by pressing the gas pedal.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1fxK6Oov_ek

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=izDDzEborbA

A bit slower with 58:80 Seconds.

3. Timed run

Last chance to do everything right, and i did it lol It could be a little bit faster but i was pleased with the result.

Because i damaged my bumper i decided to redesign the whole thing.
Therefore i made some new arches by myself.

laminated them to the existing arches and bumper

Just be aware with that level of grip, you might start bending lower / steering arms. If the steering wheel doesn't come back to where it should be driving in a straight line, after some full on hard cornering, you'll know what's happened.

Start was thursday evening at a gas station. First thing to do: fill every car
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_9588_zps1c199af5.jpg

After that me and my mate went to the "Anneau du Rhin" Racetrack in France

Because the trackday was on the following day we camped the night outside the track :)

Next morning i started the day by setting up the gopros

and adjusting the front view

After the gates opened we had to unload our cars. Fortunately we found a nice shady place because the weather forecast announced up to 36°.

how come you run front tow at 0? have you tried tow out? we run vxr race cars at 2 total tow out so the leading wheel help pull the car round the corner. would highly recommend plated diff, makes the quaife diff feel crap after having a plated diff. when you watch the car in a video from behind it looks like its 4wd where the diff drags the car round the corner and the grip levels are unreal. we are running 300hp and 340lb torque people say i bet that wheels spins out of the corners with that diff it just grips, and the slicks help as well lol

After a short briefing and two warm-up laps we could get cracking.
It was open pitlane, we were allowed to drive as much as we wanted from 9:00-12:00 and 13:00-17:00

1. Drive

I began slowly, get the tires to temperature. At least i knew the track from playing computer games lol so i knew how to get along.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IyE88V9W5wQ

2. Drive

Slowly, the advantages and disadvantages of the Corsa showed. Advantage is certainly the grip in the corners, the chassis and the steering geometry let the car drive like on rails through the tight curves. On the straights performance could be better
At about 2min50 I get some dust thrown in my face for tailgating lol

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eHRwXZMHKTI
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eHRwXZMHKTI

3. Drive

Short ride with ugly end. Before lunch we decided to do a few laps.
Unfortunately my mates luck ran out and a rose joint broke during braking on a curve and the wheel pushed itself into the wheelarch :( i was shocked as you can hear at the end of the video...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u9aQdig_fEQ

Our lunch brake included load the broken car on the trailer...

...so afternoon, i had to get alone on the track.

Awesome mate, so what's your future plans? Pick trackdays with less top end straights, or more power and torque in the form of another engine or more mods?

ExTrEmeOc
30-07-13, 06:59 AM
Thanks a lot!

I plan to upgrade the engine. I'm thinking about new forged pistons, steel rods, cams and a new TB setup from jenvey or sbdev. Would be nice to have around 170-180bhp.

Grip wise i think i'm competitive enough, maybe some aerodynamics at the back to gain a more stable rear end.

For this year im very happy with the results and next Trackday is coming soon :d

Today i removed the front lights because on the track you don't need headlights and they're simply to heavy.
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_0092f_zps6d90e20a.jpg

Then i wrapped them in cling film...
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_0095f_zpsc942f33b.jpg

...and made a mould with gypsum bandages reinforced with aluminium tubes.
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_0097f_zpsb0adcaca.jpg

Final mould for right headlight
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_0102f_zps08805f39.jpg

to prevent them from braking i protected them with a layer of fiberglass
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_0105f_zps9e41ce40.jpg

next to do: make fiberglass replacements for the headlights

I like the progression with learning to keep the revs up higher at mid / corner entry throughout the videos / day.

Bet those slicks feel heavy having to shuffle the wheel at over a g. Would you consider faster steering?

ExTrEmeOc
03-08-13, 04:50 PM
I'll do my my best not just to improve my car but me as well :)
The slicks are a real pain in combination with the quick rack and steering geometry, after 20 mintues my arms started to hurt lol i definitely have to get myself a Corsa C electric power steering!

Shedding weight!

First i used my freshly made mould to create a fiberglass Headlight replacment
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_0123f_zpsbdbec70e.jpg

released from mould
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_0121f_zpse6b021ab.jpg

after that some body filler and sanding.
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_0130f_zps4b7b44b5.jpg

Original headlight weights 1172 gramms
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_0126f_zpsbe90d976.jpg

and my fiberlass replacement with applied color and clear coat: 114 gramms
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_0128f_zpse8f416a8.jpg

That's 2 Kilos removed from the front :thumb:

my fiberglass items can be mounted to the original pickup points.
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_0134f_zps402c771e.jpg

As a contrast I'm quite pleased with the white "headlights" :)

http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_0133f_zps3d8674b3.jpg

That's a really professional look you've achieved there; can you not get some dark mesh for the bumper & maybe a sun strip?

So you are already on a Kwik rack; if you want faster steering you could invert the steering arms and / or increase the castor.

Thanks for de nice Feedback :thumb:

if you want faster steering you could invert the steering arms and / or increase the castor. What do you mean by "invert the steering arms" ?
Mhhh.. if your going to increase castor your doing the opposite, if increased it's even harder to turn the steering wheel because the inner front wheel tends to lift the car which creates a force which helps straighten the steering wheel :O

Next to do:

lower the drivers seat

First thing, remove the seat
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_0144f_zpse364f67a.jpg

original seat mountings removed with grinder. little more weight saving lol
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_0145f_zpsfeb3ce03.jpg

http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_0149f_zpsa6a1c6bf.jpg

To get the seat fixed i used two steel square tubes. At both ends i welded plates which then can be welded to the chassis.

To adjust the whole seat fixing assembly i used two bubble levels
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_0153f_zps524a3b17.jpg

Welded and added fixing points
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_0158f_zps3c80e9d3.jpg

the seat now can be fixed 2-3cm more to the middle of the car.
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/IMG_0172f_zps8732069e.jpg

I currently also enjoy the benefits of modern technology in order to optimize my vehicle Aerodynamicly :)
A 3D model of the Corsa which i made some years ago now also shows a practical use.

Thus, for example, different rear diffuser designs can be tested easily in a virtual wind tunnel.
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/windtunnel1_zpsf8a6a1d4.jpg

The program used for this purpose is called "Project Falcon" and is a freely available tool from Autodesk. This can also import self created 3D models and test them at different speeds and wind directions, so i dont have to ring up our local Formula 1 team to use their wind tunnel lol

Here nice to see how the diffuser allows the air to flow at the back of the car.
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii34/ExTrEmeOc_CH/windtunnel_zpscd0f8de6.jpg

Maybe there's a new developed diffuser in the near future!

Professional design! :thumb:
The Nova is not the best choice for aerodynamic features, but maybe you can using low-speed profiles for better grip in corners. Check an older and/or trainer sailplane wing profile!

ExTrEmeOc
12-08-13, 03:12 PM
yes i know its not the best... the virtual wind tunnel proves that lol so i'm going to try to improve the car as much as possible with some aerodynamic tweaks. Would be nice to gain a little more grip by using a flat floor and a well designed diffuser. At least it will be better than a rear bumper that acts like a parachute ;)

If you machine the steering knuckles so the track rod ends bolt up from under rather than over (on a lowered nova) it increases turn in.

As does increasing castor.

Hi, Extremeoc

What Wear Ratio they have on them ? I am looking for something bigger than 151 but I am struggling to find those .. I had a nice set of Yokohama 205/50 R13 with 180 Tread wear but they do not produce them anymore , any ideas what I can find with Tread wear bigger than 151 ?

Good luck with the car , I simply love it as I pictured mine very similar like yours.

Also are you using Corsa A or Corsa B front lower arms ( if you remember we talked about those "querlenkers" a month ago. )

Thanks

I don't know about the tread wear of my dunlops. There's nothing written on the tires. Only thing i can say is the exact type: "A46D 720" maybe you can ask dunlop about the tread wear of this tire.
