I've seen a few people running these now and just wondered whats best? I have a 12'' Pacet but also seen people running two little ones, Is it a case of see what you can fit in? Also how good are the cheap ones on ebay anyone had any experience with them? What about the fiddly cable tie and spring mounting kits are these any good?

Alot of questions I know, info, pics, any guidance is much appreciated Graeme

Brilliant so a 12'' one fits and pikey cable ties are ok, I'll just have to see what space is between rad and 'cooler

£45 quid? Damn... I paid 20 odd for mine from TxAutosport. You can get a kit that has special cable ties and rubber mountings to stop any vibration. That cost like 3 quid from the same place. (pretty much what davidfox said)

I bought mine 3-4 years ago though, so maybe the have come down.

Anyway some pic Graeme, it might not be 12" like i said :(

2 cable ties go straight through the rad fins at the bottom, and the top 2 round the slam panel, very pikey i know, but it was only meant as temp fix!!

There's nothing like blocking the airflow into the rad with an electric fan.
Unless it's your only way of mounting the fan - don't. Fit the fan behind the rad set to suck. That way the fan doesn't block the airflow, and allow the rad to do it's job when you're driving down the street. Putting the fan in front restrict the flow of air, so the engine runs hotter, and you have to run the fan(s) to cool the engine all the time. That's wasting power.

Surely the blockage at the front or the back is the same

Can I also add the best fan in the world (whatever that is) is useless without a decent shroud to control the thermal airflow properly.

A std fan in GWO is probably 'the' best option unless you need to front mount in cases of having a large turbo in the way or a custom radiator perhaps.

Orly? Yes, it might block the airflow slightly more than having it behind, but i doubt you can tell the difference...

Mine been like that for 3 years now, always sits at 1/4 on the temp gauge, and the fan kicks in just over 1/2. Infact the ONLY time my fan ever kicks in is on the MOT test when its idling..

Mine never seems to come on either, so no idea if mine is sufficient, but I have a TXAutosport 9" one on my XE

Vauxhall probaly spent millions developing the factory item, and from my experience of running an xe it works the best. I tried a pacet infront of the rad, it was ****!

Millions developing a fan? I used to run a pacet front mounted one on my Nova and rear mounted one Ka Turbo. They both worked well at bringing the temps down when sat in built up traffic
