View Full Version : HiSpec 256mm ATE caliper spacers

I have a pair of these to fit to my Nova

HiSpec caliper spacers to push a standard 256mm ATE caliper out to take 280+mm discs.

But the question is, what discs do I need? HiSpec want £150 for a pair to suit and claim they are 283x24mm. Although a lot of posts on MigWeb reckon people are using 285mm diameter discs.

As far as I'm aware the spacers will push the caliper in/out slightly so surely a standard Vauxhall disc won't do.

Cheers

I used to run this setup on my Nova from Hi-Spec

The discs to my knowledge (never actually measured them) are 285 x 24. Sold to me by Hi-Spec as a 285mm disc anyway!

I still run this disc but now with 4 pot caliper

Martin I think I have your old ones, got them off Graeme lol

Maybe 283mm was a typo then, that helps narrow the choices down. What's the chances you took measurements of the disc, e.g. depth from wheel mounting face to disc face?

Looking on Hi-Spec site there definetly listed as 283mm. Dont think i would loose sleep over 2mm :)

Never taken measurements of the disc & at the moment there on the car.

How desperate are you for discs? Was thinking of changing them for ali bells, just cos they look pretty!! :)

Not desperate, not gonna be using it that much over the next few months I guess. You flash bugger lol

Meriva discs are 280x25mm you could use those?

Not really, just always liked bells!!

Was thinking along the lines of if you would be interested in discs i remove? Nowt wrong with them & there cross drilled 285 (maybe 283!!) discs that were origonally used with those very brackets!! :)

Will sounds like an option, maybe, if they line up, as the caliper moves out of line from it's standard position with these brackets I assume? Sounds like I need to trial fit the brackets to find out.

Martin I may well be interested yeah if there's plenty of life left in them, drop me a PM when you know for sure if you're getting rid. Would still prefer a new set if I could find out exactly which ones I need to order tho!

To be honest then Iain I woiuld just bite teh bullet & order something you know will fit.
So many times i have tried to save a couple of quid & ends up costing more.

That price looking on Hi-Spec site is for cross drilled or grooved discs. Standards like you will get as OEM were about £50.00 each i think.

HiSpec want £75+VAT per disc. I'm sure the current ones on my 256s were like £20 each from RallyDesign lol

Cant you use Meriva CDTi 280 discs instead?

I bet its the offset on the disc that gives the clearance, same as with a 4pot set up. The thinkness might be 25 or such, but its how deep the offset is on the hub mounting part...

If Martin runs Wilwood stuff with the gold brackets (do you?) Iirc he does, then i have discs that will fit Iain, which i can measure again and try and fit you something the same in my disc book...

I've kindly been provided the following info for Fiat coupe discs, so the plan is to trial fit the brackets and see if the disc offset needs to change, if not I can possibly use the following:

Astra Mk3 GSi Disc
Diameter (mm): 256
Thickness (mm): 24
Height (mm): 41
Cent Bore (mm): 60
Holes: 4

Fiat Coupe Disc
Diameter (mm): 284
Thickness (mm): 22
Height (mm): 39
Cent Bore (mm): 59
Holes: 4

Benn measurements would be spot on if you have some in the same fitment!

Got some spare Fiat coupe discs here if you need lend one for a test fit

Will let you know Adam, that might be a good idea though!

If they are the same, i'll give you number of disc's that will fit you can by new, i have all the books from work at home for just this job...

Ladies and gentlemen I have a proper answer, I can see why they're charging a bit more for the discs now..

The disc used is a Ford Sierra Cosworth 2WD front disc wich is re-drilled to vauxhall 4x100 pcd and the front bore is reduced from 63.5mm to 60mm and the rear bore is taken from 137mm to 154mm

Benn any chance you can find a disc that'll match the above without machining? Assume not or HiSpec would have used it lol

Ah cool, glad they told you the specs. (I was the guy who messaged you about the Fiat discs btw)

Iain, do you have a picture of the brackets by any chance?

Iain

I can get you some later today mate, not a problem. Cheers again for the help, at least I know the specs if I ever struggle with replacements in the future.

Yeah quite good of them to tell me, assume that means they machine the inner and outer of the 'bell' part?

My HIspec spacers are 26mm hole to hole, giving a total of 308mm.

IMO, you need the spacers, then Cav turbo ATE calipers, as the pads are a bigger surface area, but thinking on, the hanger may not accept the bigger pad.

I can understand machining out the rear bore to be larger, but how on earth is the front bore reduced from 63.5mm to 60mm?

I did think the same when reading your post. You could always use a metal ring pressed in like the V6 (I think it's V6) conversions use on the Nova/Corsa.

Seems like a load of faffing.

I'd take a drawing of the brackets and have some copies made up to sell on If I were you lol. ;)

Iain, dont bother with the Fiat set up, get the mariv/mavira 280mm one's use cav/calibra turbo calipers, cheep as hell and will be spot on.
remember the issues i had with my fiat one's and the Vectra v6 calipers?

Mike

Ive currently got Vec V6 calipers an Meriva discs on mine. Although calipers are no longer being used, but it all fits perfectly.

Re-Reducing the bore, has to be some kind of spacer/spigot ring or something?

Iain
15-12-11, 09:38 PM
Pfft Vauxhall setups are too easy lol I'm interested in maintaining the same calipers I know work well lol

Yeah thats what I was thinking Adam, like a spigot ring for the disc.

I looked into this a good few years ago, and im pretty sure the closest disk (due to the offset of the disk changing) was sierra cosworth ones (283mm x 24mm 4 stud)

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/DIMPLED-SPORTS-BRAKE-DISCS-FRONT-SIERRA-RS-COSWORTH-2WD-/180430335456?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item2a027c6de0

But there not the cheapest, and would need to be re-drilled to 4x100 and im presuming spigots made.
