View Full Version : possible ebay scam?
I just tried to bid on something on ebay, and was presented with the following page. I was already logged in at the time.
Seems very suspicious to me, why would I need to put my card details in just to bid? I tried it on IE as well, and just got an error page, suggesting someone is taking advantage of some glitch maybe.
The URL address is odd aswell, ebay always make a point of saying genuine pages begin with www.ebay.whatever... so i'm definitely suspicious now.
My name and address were right though. going to report it to ebay anyway, because even if it is genuine, it's a f*cking stupid thing to do.
anyone else experienced the same thing?

https is generally considered safe apparently
I did think that, but firefox came up with a warning I was on an encrypted page, containing unencrypted information, so maybe the scammers have found a way to make it look more real that way

my thoughts exactly, why on earth would ebay want my card details? they don't have them anyway (except through paypal) so couldn't compare them to anything. paypal is all linked, has been for years and through dozens of transactions.

but unfortunately, f*cking stupid is what ebay do best lol
If you look at the following link and the last post, it is legitimate and is used to confirm your identity (make sure you are 18+ etc) when bidding on knives and cutlery.

aha that will be it then.
But what a pissing stupid idea that is. I'm 20 years old, and wanted to buy a cake slice for my mum, and I don't have a credit card, because I like to live within my means lol oh well, good job the item didn't sell, so have done a deal with the seller out of ebay. looks like you lose your commision, ebay me ode lol

New names idea debt card and debit card haha
Credit cards have their uses, you just have to be very strict at keeping on top of them. If you can't trust yourself to look after your money or control your spending though, avoid. lol

True, but thats only a secure connection between client and server. That could still be a rogue server with forged or fake certificates

^^ I thought I was bad  that's £11 grand more than me lol lol lol
