Hi

As winter is here & Nova off the road i though it time today to relocate my oil temperature sensor.
I had previously had it in as the sump plug but reading posts from a while back this isnt the best place to take oil temperature.
There are positions in the rear of the engine as picture below.

Removed the sensor from the sump & its larger than i remember!

Screwing the sensor into the upper most location it just bottoms out before screing all the way in.
Now i can get a spacer either from local hydraulic company or made by engineering company to space it back.

My question is does anyone know how large that oil galley is?
Screwing something of that size in is it likely to block the galley?

Any advice appreciated.

Cheers

Martin

Why not just leave it in the sump plug? The old 'if aint broke....'

Oil will be same temp within a few degrees in that gallery and in the sump. Plus in the sump you know its 100% fully covered in oil @ all times.

Thanks for reply Paul.

I was told / read that there was a bigger temperature difference between oil in the block & sump. If it is just a couple of degrees then yea your right it isnt worth the hastle of relocating the sensor.

Cheers

Martin.

I can't see pics as work network blocks image hosting websites, but I think I fitted mine in the back bolt hole in the oil pump. It's very deep there and should not restrict any flow.

Just get an adaptor from Tweeks or similar for about a fiver

Annoyingly got no pics of it fitted but it's the bolt in the right of this pic:

What the other sender fir Iain? I assume the bottom one is oil light and pressure gauge?

Be an aftermarket pressure gauge, Iainiaiainainaianain has 2 I believe.

Yea, he has pressure and light off the bottom sender, and he says oil temp from the bolt on the pump, so whats the other sender for?

Pressure/light is standard, other sender is for his aftermarket gauge as he didn't trust the standard gear 100% with his new engine iirc.

Sorry for the accidental highjack Martin lol

Bottom big one is standard pressure light/gauge sender, soon to be replaced with a 15-20psi switch for the light as it's not reliable enough for me.

Top big one is aftermarket pressure sender for the Stack pressure gauge. Got the Stack temp gauge working off the rear bolt of the oil pump (not pictured)

So you've moved it from where it is in that pic then...

Your not getting me...

1 pressure/oil light, standard, 2 pin plug
1 Pressure gauge, aftermarket, single wire yellow/blue
1 oil temp, aftermarket, in the hole/bolt on the right

The bottom of the large standard pressure light / gauge sender, it was soon replaced by light, because it is not reliable enough for me to use 15-20PSI switch. One of the favorite LED Flashlights (http://www.meritline.com/led-flashlight---c-7832.aspx) after-stack gauge pressure sensors.
