hi all, i am putting the loom on my engine in the garage and have a few questionable plugs.
my original loom has had a plug cut off, i have a picture of the plug below if someone can tell me what it is?

right this is the first one, my guess is oil pressure?

now this is the plug i mentioned before that has been cut off the old loom. and i think on the old loom it was split into a live for the ecu that had a fuse in it?! and a green and white wire shown here.....

the funny pipe goes round the back of the manifold & joins to the inlet pipe & the icv.

as for the small mystery plug, what wires go to it?

i think the big one is the old main loom connector. mine hasn't had one for about 20 years.

yeah cheers kev thats it, so can i plug the loom connecter into a corresponding one on my current car?

i will go check in a second what wires go to it, but when on the engine it sits around the dizzy
cheers for the help

right, in the second picture i need to know what this plug does, and if there is a corresponding one in my car or am i going to have to chop it off and run a fused live to the ecu aswell as a earth and other ones ?!?!

Top one isn't oil pressure, it'll connect to something around the back I reckon (knock sensor, idle control valve or something maybe?)

Big one, chances are you don't have one it'll plug straight in to, so either get the other half and connect it to your car loom or chop it off and do it that way.

Isnt the top on either distributor or water temp (IIRC? Or what ever that little sensor is under the dizzy on an E16).

yeah i am going to cut the plug off my current ecu, and with my spare loom take that apart and use these wires to go from my current ecu plug to this plug...
only thing is now i dont know how to connect them because i dont want to use chock blocks or bullet connecters i could solder them directly but that would be a pain in future if i was to remove it

edit: and also does anyone know if a corsa b sri 1.4 8v mpi fuel pump will work ?

Sounds feasible to me Mike, I remember the plug looking similar to that.

Try and find the other half of the plug currently on the loom so it remains uncut, otherwise chop it off and buy both halves of a plug from VWP to connect it to your current loom.

cheers for the replys guys its a great help!
im sure your right about this sensor! i will have to get a temp sensor :)
yeah i would preffer to have it uncut ideally but i doubt i will be able to find the other half of the plug in time :( doesnt bother me as i will just solder them and heat shrink them so they are properly done.

right just connected up my starting and charging loom and i have a few quereys about this, am i right in thinking it is a corsa 8v loom as the battery terminals come out near the nearside front?! (where batt is on a corsa) rather than top left of the bay, and it has some plugs on i am unsure of....

where the terminals come out near dizzy:

Stupid question but this is going in a Nova yeah?

You use the Nova charging and battery loom instead of the donor one.

Curtoise

yeah shoulda said that really haha,
but however iirc it came from a corsa, into connors nova which im guessing he used the loom it came with, and now into mine. should be straight forward to just remove mine off my engine :)

edit: so im guessing these plugs are only for the corsa?

Iain

Yeah the Corsa charging loom is separate to the engine loom though? So ditch that and the unwanted wiring that goes with it, and use the Nova one

wait im so confused now, my gte loom doesnt have any wires for starter motor/ alternater ? or is it like attached to the car?

its atatched to the car bud

Curtoise

okay cheers mate, so i can just put that out of the way and when the engine is in just wire it up. that would save alot of hassle :)

Curtoise

right this is the seperate loom, i just went out and removed it just to clarify

and this where i think the coolant sensor will go

Iain

Yes that's the coolant sensor hole. I hope it's a standard thread and hasn't been crossthreaded with a bolt lol

So do I mate, so do I. So the temp gauge won't work without this? Can can I use my old one off the the 1.4

Iain
12-12-11, 09:48 PM
That's the temp sensor for the ECU, the one for the dash is elsewhere (blue wire on inlet somewhere)

Curtoise
12-12-11, 09:50 PM
Oh that's good then so I guess it won't run.properly without it. Beers for your help iain

Yea thats what I was thinking too lol But its been around 3 years since Ive had an E16 engine so cant remember all that much :/
