sorry doh - no its a b, 1.5td, L plate early one - as far as i know theres only the charge relay to change and possibly something on the back of the clocks, but couldn't seem to find any specific yes or no on that one.

charge relays are pretty common, but some cars came with it and some didnt you would need to check drivrs side kick panel for it next to yellow glow plug relay.

ok had the relay open and it looks minty brand new inside, no hint of broken wire, burntness, bad contacts or anything.... could it still be dead?

replaced a couple of fuses and i have dahs lights etc back to normal - but with the brand new alt i still don't get proper voltage at the battery - about 11.5 when off and same when idling - rising by perhaps half a volt when revved (when car is cold).

worth getting a new charge relay now or can i test it? does anyone know if i plug it in without the cover on when should it be operating/switching?

I was going to say fuses if it was a corsa c as one I fixed was totally dead and it was 2 fuses to power up the ignition. All you need is 12v so why worry unless the battery is discharging.

yeah it was two fuses that had gone

one thing is does anyone know if it would be ok to drive it like this or is it likely to kill things? i could do with mot-ing it sharpish really.

it probs would strugle to charge the battery bud they should charge at 13-14 sort of mark have you tried all the earths bud

gonna ask a thick question but what earths should there be? on the td

i have tried jump lead on block to batt and this makes no diff.

i think it would be ok to use aslong as your not sitting with blower, heated rear window and lights all on as your battery wont last long. is the alt a 4 pin or 2 pin plug and are you getting a live feed down the blue white wire?

cheers dude - i would stick a spare batt in the boot anyway just incase but was jus being paranoid incase it could damage anything, but i guess no more than it already is lol.

it's a 4pin - i will check the blue/white tomorrow - should i be seeing batt voltage or charge voltage on that wire?

nice one i check it later - do u happen to know which wire is earth (excuse the ignorance if it's obvious, i haven't actually looked before asking!) and also any ideas where the wires end up in the car so i can test for breakages?

also i guess the charge relay clicks on when starting the car and off when switched off - and shouldn't switch off in between? gonna try fitting it carefully without the cover so i can watch it working.
