hi all

thats me just turnerd 16 so its time to start thinking about isurance for my nova GTE

if you have saw my thread you will see that i have spent a lot of time and money on it
so i would really like to use it as my first car although there are a lot of people P***ing on my bonfire so to speak saying i will never insure it before my 21 and i am living in fantacy land lol

ive searched and found my cheapest quote to date has been £3800

i was thinking about classic insurance on a limited mileage or something

so i would like to hear your thoughts and where the best places are to try also has anyone else tryed insuring a GTE at 17 ?

cheers andy :thumb:

i had a white gte when i was 18 and i paid £1200 with 0 ncb and one years driving under my belt. Saying that it was back in 2001 :)
To be honest mate £3800 seems about right on todays ripoff prices. My self being 29 6 years ncb im paying £720 on a sh%t box 106 diesel  yet 2 years ago i was paying £600 for a mr2 turbo. If you want it you will just have to save buddy. good luck with it and the project ive been reading it :thumb:

Personally id get a cheap corsa b 1.2 or something, drive for a year then insure the nova when its ever so slightly cheaper and your a bit more experianced. There are exceptions (myself included) but sadly statistics say you will write your first car off. (one of the many many reasons for premiums being so high)
Otherwise be prepared to be bent over by them :( (im 26, payed 800 on my astra vxr, sold that and got a cheap mk4 astra sxi and i got back 29quid for the remaining 6 months on my policy.. work that one out!!)

It's mad how at 18 a 1.3sr cost me £85 a month and then at 26 £13 a month on a 1.2spi

when i was 17, (13 years ago) my first car was a ford escort rs1600i mk3, and cost me £2300 to insure, wasnt bad at the time, i do feel for you younger people these days, its shocking how much they charge!

Seems quite cheap for a GTE with your details. I was paying £1850 for a 1.4 MK3 astra as my first car, and now i'm paying the equivalent of £3K a year for a 1.25 fiesta, with 2 years ncb, while the Nova is off the road. I'm afraid you can't get a classic policy under 21 either mate.

With most Classic Car policies, you need to be at least 21.

i have doubts on you insuring a gte cheap :/

your best bets would be to get one of your parents to insure it under their name and then put you on as a named driver.

No, that wouldn't be a good bet at all.

another option is one i discovered by mistake as i filled in all my details on confused.com however instead of putting my date of birth in as 1991 i miss typed and put 1981. it was amazing, i was being quoted £80 instead of the £900 i paid the year before. eventually i noticed my mistake and was very dissapoint :(. Btw this is illegal and i wouldnt recomend trying to take out insurance this way however would be interesting to see if it could be done and then in the event of a claim blame it as a typing error.
Neither of those is a good option, both are insurance fraud - whether you know you put the wrong information in or not.

I'm 20, have 3 years no claims and looking to insure a GTE i want to buy from round the corner. Lowest quote I got was £2800. At 17 you'll really struggle unless you're in a very low risk area (like have your own postcode)

I can see how much you want to have your GTE as your first car but TBH at 17 its not worth spending all your money on insurance and then not being able to fuel it so you can drive it. The last thing you want to here is wait till your abit older but honestly thats the best thing you can do. It will save you a lot of heart ache in the long run.
Sorry to put a downer on it.

Don't forget most people crash or at least damage their first cars too, do you really wanna smash up a GTE?

I still cant see how people are paying £848 and under £600 at 17.

No matter the postcode, car, miles etc its never under a grand at 17.

Fire up some details lads.

Or a Lotus Carlton for 3000 miles a year for under £180 on a Classic Policy

I paid £800 on my Sri when i was 17 and was a major risk inevitably writing it off. Now at 24 im a bit more sensible i pay £108 a month for my LET to sit in the garage!!

When I was 17 on a provisional license, I paid £600 FC on a 1litre Nova, at 19, I paid £500 FC on a Nova GTE, at 20 I paid £580 FC for a Manta GTE track prep'd, at 21 i paid £700 FC on a Nova 2litre 16vave track prep'd, and now I'm 26 I just had a quote for £169 FC on a Manta GTE with a Senator 3litre 24valve engine... HAPPY DAYS!

I don't envy you... Youngsters do seem to get a hard deal these days! However, I still know mates whopaid silly money for insurance when I was 17/18 etc. Swings and roundabouts!

Most of the "I pay £xyz" posts in this thread are completely useless though to be fair, as insurance depends on a whole bunch of factors.

Age, location, insurance company, mileage, cover, job, etc are some of the things which come to mind first. Without giving a little bit of info into the background, you can't really compare.

Its a bit like saying "You paid £500 for some work on your car? Wow thats expensive, I only paid £150" without saying what that work was... lol
