well after deciding to try and make some extra pennies my learning how to fibreglass (as well as fixing my bm splitter) i attempted my first mould today...it didnt quite go to plan lol

the gelcoat went on pretty good...dried very fast too under the halogen lamp.

the i put the matting on...and it all went tits. lol the top stuck perfectly but the edges wouldnt stick down. kept lifting up  so after it was hardened i decided to take it apart before it stuck together.

oops lol most of the paint was pulled off

And finish on the plug (thing your moulding) needs to be sorry as funk and waxed (releasing agent) before you lay the fiber glass on.

it was, it had 7 layers of wax and the release agent. ive got a picture somewhere of the finish and it was proper nice.

Did you paint the cover with 2k? If it's rattle cans you'll get issues with paint going soft etc with gel coat chemicals etc...

Bubba

ah that would be why...next time ill just sand it smooth. and wet and dry it with 1200.

A guy on the transit forum ( there is one ) made up moulds for side skirts built from scratch for the connect and they took ages and made from some heavy duty plaster stuff called Herculite 2.
