Hello ello...

I'm wanting to give spraying a try just on a few bits of scrap and then once I feel confident spray my nova.

I have a compressor etc, just curious as to what spray gun would be best suited for me, budget of about £70 for a gun.

And any other tips someone can give me into making the first steps.

Thanks.

Always spray starting in the middle of the panel, always clean the surface with oil based cleaning agents

Think I've just clicked on... You have to use pre-paint to remove any debri off the panels such as oil etc... C..t lol

Panel wipe mate, bit like thinners, but not so potent, and always start your spraying a good foot from the panel edge and you spry over the panel then let off the lever repeat etc, and keep a check for drip from the gun nozzle look for water in the lies etc, im not a sprayer but i know a few basics..

95% of a good job is prep 5% paint
very minimum i finish my prep in is 320 as a quick tidyup job like my old cav got
usually finish in 800 grade,
mixing paint is 2 parts paint to 1 part activator/hardener 10%thinners this is for 2k direct gloss ie flame red

always start with your edges first,go round all your edges eg wheelarches as then nothing gets missed then start from top to bottom dropping the gun slightly each pass keeping a wet line

wait approx 10 minutes between coats this is called flash off time if you dont you will end up with longer curing time and more likely lots of runs

if you cant go off the edge of a panel ie roof its hard to explain but flick the gun so facing away from the panel

This. ive got a cheap £25 gun off ebay, not used it yet as i cant afford the paint lol. but having perfect prep is the key.

this is rattle canned on my plug cover

sanded to 600grit, coat of white as i only had that, then 3 coats of black, cured under a halogen light. G3'd, polished and waxed.

my mirrors which ive done i didnt prep as good and i now have silicone pop all round the edges.

First gthing you need to do is make sure your compressor can run your gun. You need to check the CFM and working pressure of the gun is less than what your compressor can constantly run at.

the devilbiss guns for around 70 quid look a good entry level gun, ive goot a devilbiss gti i love it,
another tip is dont run too much air pressure through the gun as it wont spray as nice,i dont have a gauge on mine but just know when its right if you get me,
bubba that looks spot on mate

Water trap/filter are a good idea, just look at my project thread to see how paint comes out if you don't have an in line filter

pete try and befriend a body shop. you would be shocked at how much it costs to paint things yourself. it all adds up hell i cant even afford to spray my van and i work in a bodyshop

if i had my own garage buddy i would do it but i dont,
infact i dont have anywhere myself to use at the minute and i will be prepping blue pegs novavan at his and sticking it on my truck and taking it to my cousins to pinch his garage for a few hour next year when it warms up,

its getting that bad for me now i painted my recovery in my garden in the dark in gloss black and working 6 days 12 hours i wont see what its dried like in the light until another week how bad is that

ive never sprayed a full car (always wanted but dont have the space)

the water trap sits in the air line between the gun and the compressor so no water gets into the paint, before you paint get the compressor turned on and let it fill up then turn it off and open the valve on the bottom it lets all the crap out. ive been covered in grey sludge doing this before haha

paint in a nice dry and warm place, put some water on the ground to stop any dust coming up from you walking round, only a small amount not like the thames

dont be tempted to put too much paint on as it will run , trust me

then you get the fun bit of laqcuer, i absolutely hat doing it
