does it matter if which way round the track rod end goes onto the hub?

its easier for removal if i put the track rod end under the hub with the nut on top

Are they tapered? It's that long since I took one to bits lol. If not I wouldn't of thought so. Might get some issues with "bump steer" etc I'm sure some one with more Knowledge than me will tell you..

yes deffo tapered, lock nut at the bottom, use copper grease for easy future removal

its not so much the bolt removal its stopping the thing spinning where as if you have the nut on top its easier to get a small jack under it to stop it spinning

so from the bottom is a no no

have they not got an allen key in the middle of the thread??? ie ring/open end spanner with allen key holding it still??

None of the ones I've done on Novas (or aftermarket replacements) have had an allen key hole.

As said tapered so in from the top only.

Cut the nut off with a hacksaw or a baxter then hammer it out :d

its not that bad getting it off as i just use a bar to push down but would be easier from the bottom but oh well lol

Yeah it does matter mate. As mentioned above, ull have big bump steer issues, secondly its tapered so only can be mounted rod end on top. And lastly if the nut cums off for whatever reason, the rod end can't drop out.

use mole grips to clamp the top of the track rod end to the hub and then take nut off. thats what i do if there tough to come off :)

Get someone to push down on it with a bar and use a battery gun to get the nut on as its quick and wont go as tight as say an air gun that may strip the thread. Works everytime for me :thumb:

for gods sake people.. clean the offending hole & the taper on the TRE if it is used, then lightly oil the threads & wind the nut on.
it is not meant to be windy gun tight, far from it, the taper does the work, and the nut should only be 37lb/ft tight. the 37lbft from the nut, when magnified thru the bolt threa, and then onto the taper will make a torque equivalent to at least 500lb. the TRE will not come off.

all the problems on these come from over tightening.

and how tight did you do them?

swedge

enough to hold it but not overly tight, i put a dab of copper grease on nearly every nut and bolt i take off as well
