is Megasquirt any good, a good friend of mine has just bought a X16Xe and plans to fit a VXR turbo and Pistons and rods, then run it on Ms. I want to know how easy it is and is it worth it. anything better out there etc etc.

I am a ATA diagnostic tech, basically am 20 year old auto electrician. Wouldnt say i know everything (only been in the trade four years) but I know enough etc. I know nothing about this though that's why am asking.

anything else we should consider about the build?

Cheers Dan

I'd look into the CR a bit further, the head influences compression ratio quite significantly, the pistons + rods may not be able to drop it down to the required amount.

MS has been used on basicly every forum i've ever been a member of...General opinion i get is that it isnt the best, but in terms of functionality/££ its the ultimate management. ECU's can be bought prebuilt from the states for a lot less than they do over here. It can be mapped DIY, but you WILL need a wideband O2 sensor for that, and a proper rolling road setup is going to be needed for anything reliable unless its a build a lot of people have run MS on and you can download someone elses RR map.

Previous experience with bolting turbos to things that just arent supposed to be that way were very very fast...breifly. An uprated clutch is a realy good idea as otherwise it'll probbably just slip when you hit boost...and nomatter what anyone tells you, chinachargers are a **** idea. T3/T4 hybrid turbos are a **** idea. ebay turbo kits are a **** idea. and it WILL cost at least double whatever you budget on it!

That said, it did make over 180bhp, from a 1.4 engine on stock internals and compression ratios :d

iirc the vxr rods fit but the pistons are bigger dude, may be wrong but i had my nova on ms it was ok for the money but abit tricky to set up how about omex or somthing like that with a wideband kit buddy?

Did novarally not give up on the idea of VXR turboing a baby XE due to lack of clearance between the turbo and oil filter, even with a relocation kit?

VXR piston V's standard x16xe - it doesn't matter if the comp ratio doesn't drop to the exact same level as the corsa vxr's as long as you dont go silly with the boooooost Yo!

The clearance between the filter and turbo is tight but i think it would be possible with the filter relocated (i'm prob not using the vxr turbo anymore in favour of a ball bearing but i still have it all mocked up)

Where is the filter on the VXR lump?

Thats gonna be funking tight even with simple fittings on the block to relocate the filter :s

MS, you need to have it built by someone competent to not give you dry joints etc. From my reading when Mowgli picked my brains about it, Microsquirt looks to be a very capable setup with all the joys of modern technology in there!

Thanks Guys, he is doing it to be different but needs it to last and be a daily for 6 months. I personally think he is mad and should stick to either N/A power or get a bigger engine. I will have a word with him later and see if he is still up for it.

Your right Stuart it will be very tight but not impossible - lots of work for a daily - an 2lt xe would be easier

Or to be different fit a 1.3 starlet turbo engine then you could use the loom and management etc from the toyota.

id look into GReedy Emanage im tempted by this on my 1600 8V turbo, around 400 quid iirc and more suited for turbo applicants.

another question if vxr pistons fit a baby xe will they a 8v if the bottom ends are identical?

Yeah they will fit but there shaped for four valves per cylinder, so wouldn't work pal.
