View Full Version : bottom pulley issues
hi i've stripped the head off to do the gasket and change the cam belt,
im having issues removing the bottom pulley so i can change the cambelt,
is this a reverse thread nut by any chance? its on a 12st engine, or does anybody know a good way to remove the bottom pulley wheel as my head is spinning and my knuckels are bleeding, cheers
nope its normal thread, is the engine still in the car? alot easier if it is
Engine in car? Wheels on floor, engine in gear, turn the crank bolt to take up the slack in the transmission, then get someone to stand on the brake pedal, then undo the crank bolt. They aint that tight on a 8v.
or put a breaker bar onto the bolt and jam it against the ground then flick the starter on
If you do that make sure youve got the bar positioned on the right side so that it locks the engine against the floor and doesnt spin with the starter lol lol

and make it even tighter lol

Breaker bar....job done.
head is off, been off about a week or so now wilst being rebuilt and ported,
so just bottom end in the car still,
also wilst on the subject, the marking on the bottom pulley wheel, is thios the mark i use to time the car up against the top cambelt pulley or is this a mark for the electronic ignition mark,
i assumed you use this mark for the bootom end and then the mark on the cam pulley to time the car and put the cambelt on but a friend of mine at vauxhall thinks there is another timing mark i should use which is hidden behind the bottom pulley wheel? is he just pulling my leg and messing about or not?
when i took the cambelt off, the bottom pulley wheel mark was on tdc but the cambelt pulley wheel was 5 teeth out?????
also what price should i think of if i decided to sell the cxar? its an e reg red antibes with full rebuild on standard engine at 69k, full gsi unmarked interior and gsi mk2 bodywork, 15inch black tsw venoms and 8 months tax and test?
cheers
