With starting a new business and making a fresh start I wanted a new car to replace the vectra, so decided to get me one of these. So pleased with it. Such a great drive and it just wants to go round corners and be revved hard - ideal. Its standard power with just a few touches like CSL front spats, Genuine CSL wheels & boot lid & a miltek back box. Got no massive plans for it other than to buy a set of CSL reps in matt black for the winter. Had the car detailed this weekend and well chuffed with the results :d

Having been made redundant by the Co-operative as a financial advisor I've set up as an independent with an association with a local firm. I'm self-employed which is the main point and can do as little or as much as I wish! 2 weeks in and all good so far.

Still got the datsun. Fitting a GT28RS, bigger injectors, fully adjustable alignment arms and geomaster hubs over the winter period.

Very nice, love the sound of these

The sound is the best and worst thing about them! With the miltek back box is a nice deep note til about 3k then it quietens then at 4k the straight six screen comes in right round to revile :D

Only ever heard standard exhausts on those, there significant difference with the miltek backbox.
One of my favourite sounding modernish cars is a beemer fitted with an aftermarket system, listen to this

Not pushed it that hard yet, has stepped out on me tho. Drop it into 3rd to overtake someone, booted it (in a straight line) and it just got all squiggly! Must of been mud on the road or something.

I am fully aware the running costs are high! Its the reason I havnt sold the datsun. Give it a year in the M to say that I've had one and enjoyed it then sell on maybe.

dan16v
28-11-11, 11:39 PM
Not just running cost Simps, but all the faults they can have that BMW have never admitted to. Sub frame seems to be the only thing they have come clean about!. They are great cars, but I would be to scared to own another one. I ended up with a 530d m sport now, fingers crossed it stays on the road!
If you need brake pads I have a new set Inc wear sensors sat here!

What went wrong with yours?

BMW done the subframe and rear floor on mine earlier this year. Only fault I currently have is my horn doesn't work.

dan16v
29-11-11, 12:31 PM
Yes they done my subframe also mate, was a good service, i could not fault them on that to be fair.
Other issues they are seing that im sure youre aware of as your on cutters,
The loose Vanos pulley bolts (should be a recall), power steering pipes often fail and are about £300 to replace, head gasket issues that are almost common practice now (should be a goodwill gesture item like sub frame), worn cam shafts on early sub 2003 cars, sub 2003 cars useing oil, probably more, but most are major issues for a 40k car.
My car dropped it's exhaust bearing on the vanos into the sump and wrecked the engine, a guy at work had his head gasket go, which warped the head and scortched the block and also needed a new engine.
One thing these cars dont take well to seems to be short journeys, read they suffer from bore wash on cold start which in turn thins the oil, if you only do short runs you never flash the fuel off, you just keep adding it to the oil.
Both of us at work travelled less than 2 miles to work, which kind of ties up.

myne,

Ah Imola Red! Lovely colour. My 320cd was in that colour.

Like a lot of cars mate, not without there problems! I was looking at 320cd's again but with the kind of mileage they had on them and horror stories of egg valves, flaps & knackered turbos it scared me off. I just took my time looking for the right M that looked well looked after with a good service history and just gotta keep my fingers crossed!!

Count Vaux Alot
29-11-11, 09:23 PM
The 320d's suffer big time from eating throttle flaps - usually killing the turbos, they also suffer from blocked breathers badly that people misdiagnose as a turbo fault.

dan16v
29-11-11, 10:10 PM
Yes dude was Imola red with kiwi nappa leather!
Just had the swirl flaps removed from the 530 as they are prone to falling into the enginelol

Count Vaux Alot
29-11-11, 10:29 PM
I should have said bmw diesels in general suffer from eating things they shouldn't lol

dan16v
29-11-11, 11:52 PM
Good old german engineering!, on the upside the remapped 530d is just as quick as the M on the move.
Only got the M3 to annoy my old neighbours, used to drive him nuts that a 25 year old could have all these cars, anything I would buy, first question, how much did you pay for that? lol
