Had my Nova for almost 4 years now, thought id share my story so far and update you all on my progress as I rebuild my E16se

http://i298.photobucket.com/albums/mm268/Olliekingnova/DSC00289.jpg
This is the Nova when I got it, it was my first car given to me by my Grandad.

http://i298.photobucket.com/albums/mm268/Olliekingnova/DSCF2074.jpg
As you can see the car spent most of its life in his garrage.

http://i298.photobucket.com/albums/mm268/Olliekingnova/DSCF2032.jpg
I undersealed the underside and fitted a pair of new shocks as the originals were shot.

I need to get some pics of the whole car as it now looks like new! really chuffed with it! saved alot of money too doing the painting my self, its by no means show condition but perfect for me

Also sneaked in to the Vauxhall herritage centre whilst i was at Vauxhall for work and found these bad boys

http://i298.photobucket.com/albums/mm268/Olliekingnova/1ce8b843.jpg

to be honest most Novas on this forum are in better condition than theese, bit of a shame considering theyre part of vauxhall's history and theyre letting them rust, probaly a more accurate representaion of vauxhall tho i guess. ha

0.50mm oversize. or 20 thou in old money..
http://i298.photobucket.com/albums/mm268/Olliekingnova/4eb0a0d3.jpg

you said that you were sending the head for a skim, it looked pretty good as it was, were you planning a skim for upping the compression?

OllieKing
12-12-11, 02:33 PM
I was thinking the same. It looks like its been skimmed before. think ill take it to the engine shop and get them to clean it atleast and ask for their advice, it would be nice to up the compression ratio but if it doesnt need doing i could do with saving the cash monies tbh.

mowgli
12-12-11, 02:37 PM
they will always advise you that it needs skimming.... they are in the skimming business.

this engine looks like it has been looked after. do you have any pics of the ports, to see if its been modified, as it seems odd to fit arp's without doing anything much else to it.

edit. i've just been right thru this thread.. when you come to rebuild it, compress as much oil out of the lifters as possible before fitting them. people have broken followers with lifters full of oil. what you need to do is put it all together, leave the spark plugs out, and then turn it over till the oil light goes out. then fire it up, the lifters will self fill properly then.

OllieKing
12-12-11, 03:01 PM
Thanks for the advice!
the ports have all been ported and polished and somone had done a really good job of it too! also had a racing clutch kent cam and then the twin 40's as well. hoping to make it in to the 130's when i get it on the rolling road and set up properly

swedge
12-12-11, 04:28 PM
good project thread, and do as mowgli said and get as much oil out as you can

when i stripped mine i took them all apart and cleaned them, itll tap like **** to start with but once the oil gets back in them they will be fine

Yep! cant wait to stick her in. wont be until after I finish my placement though (July) as I need the car as a daily until then. Just slowly collecting bits until then. Also planning on making a batch of cam belt covers and selling them on here once I get the mould right.

How did you fit the seats mate?

I can see side mounts but how are they mounted to the car?

More pics and details would be great.

OllieKing

The seats were only resting on the OEM sub frames as i was only test fitting them. When I do fit them I will weld in two bars for the side mounts to sit on.

Possibly too late, but if you used a Kent AST cam then it's better suited (lift/duration) to carbs. The NVO cams, I believe are better for injection. I run a near identical engine, but with a Kent AST2 and seeing 105bhp and torque at the wheels on the setup run - more to come :) it equates to about 130bhp+ at the fly

Good luck with the rest of the built - looks great so far, like a trip down memory lane for me.
