Someones posted this up on Vectra-C.com and I thought i'd pass on the details incase it helps anyone on here.

a mate of mine called me up 2 weeks ago and said you never guess whats just happened, he said he plugged my ipod in his laptop (he has the 1st gen one) he could smell burning and he said his ipod blew up. was reading the metro paper at work and apple have recalled all there ipod nano 1st gen ones because there is some think wrong with the batterys they say they can explode.http://www.apple.com/support/ipodnano_replacement/

Looks like you get a reconditioned 1st Gen Nano as a replacement.

Isn't this old news? I'm 99.9etc% certain I remember a recall a few years back on some apple product because it had a habit of exploding

The batteries I took out were very puffed up lol, replaced with ebay specials for about £7 for both, job done.
