Wrote my car off a few weeks ago so I've been on the lookout for a replacement. One came on Autotrader last night so I got in early and went to look at it this morning. Looked really nice, really good condition, drove nicely, all of which tallied with a mileage of 79k, supported by a FSH and nice shiney new MOT certificate.
We agreed a deal and I went away to get the cash together.
I'd also taken the MOT number off the new certificate which I used with the reg number to look at the MOT history on the DVLA/government website.
Imagine my suprise when I saw that at the previous MOT in May of this year the mileage was 213k
I've told him he can keep it, swore at him a few times, etc. What other routes are there to out scum like this out of business though? Registered as a trader but without premises.
Be careful out there people.

Just in case by huge co-incidence someone in the Oldham area is after a Ford Galaxy - the car in question is EJ03 PVA - AVOID IT
Not suprising - I never even look at cars (with lower) mileage unless all the MOTs are present. I know this doesnt fully warrent the mileage, but gives you a good idea...
I am assuming that it has no s/h then?
I did have a row with the bloke who mot'd my nova last year cos it was supposed to have 12000(approx miles) & he put 120000 on the ticket, i made him change it. I doubt this was the case with you though

Another Galaxy (GK52 YJO) came up on Autotrader on Friday afternoon, I phoned the seller, he gave me a postcode. I went to see it, different car in scruffy condition which I wasn't interested in, but I still took the number off the MOT certificate to check the history.
AGAIN, previous MOT 166k miles, MOT from last week 86k.
Both cars had a full dealer stamped service history, the second even had 2 previous MOTs to back up the displayed mileage.
If anyone fancies a look go on the MOT history part of the DVLA website and bung in:
EJ03 PVA and 588178511316 (MOT cert no)
GK52 YJO and 827241821368
What authorities should I be reoprting this scum to? The dealers I'm sure will have covered themselves pretty well, the mobile numbers will be pay as you go so untraceable, I seriously doubt that the the house i viewed the first car outside belonged to the guy and the second guy I viewed the car at a car wash place which I'm sure will deny all knowlegde of him. While the same garage MOTed both cars, is there really proof they clocked them? Would VOSA be interested? Would the Police? (Very doubtful) Trading Standards?
vosa are your people to talk to
Police will be interested.4 blokes got jail for it the other day,its fraud.

Somehow deleted it from my earlier post: Both cars were within half a mile of each other.
vosa are your people to talk to
I will be talk to them tomorrow, but as hugely conicidental as it is, can they prove they clocked it or it was just presented to them for MOT with a "revised" mileage?
Police will be interested.4 blokes got jail for it the other day,its fraud.
I willl try to phone the local police (not 999) but my recent experience is that they won't give a toss. (I returned an i-phone to O2 recently via the local post office and after phoning O2 for a fortnight waiting for them to acknowledge reciept they told me it was still being used in my local area. Obvisously lifted from the PO at some point. I went to the police station to report it and they said I wasn't allowed to make accusations like that. Excuse me, but isn't that how the Police service works?)
