View Full Version : Nova XE airbox
Right then guys can anyone identify the airbox on the nova xe ive just seen on the bay, im thinking its an SRi one but all the SRi's ive ever seen have had either a cone filter fitted or an xe (lol) so ive never actually seen one!
http://i.ebayimg.com/00/s/Njg1WDEwMjQ=/$%28KGrHqQOKosE6e%29dl0OrBOv5bdYccw%7E%7E60_12.JPG
And if anyone has one they would like to part with, please feel free to pm me:thumb:
it a corsa b airbox spud, i've just thrown one away!
corsa b??????????
not as fast as john?
Cool is it from any particular model, im thinking possibly a 1.4 or 1.6 16v, as dont the 8v ones have the small spi box thing on top of the carb?
It will have butchered underneath! they sit about 3 foot too high otherwise! Does look tidy though....
Might have to have a look into that as i want mine to look as factory as i possibly can, not keen on big cone filters and i reckon one of those, plus an SFi box would be the exact look im after:thumb:
Does look a good solution
Probably run better than with a cone filter as well
I may have one of these in my shed i shall have a looky when i get home :thumb:

That's exactly what I'll be after! How about just using the lid and leaving a cone filter underneath ?
iv got one from a 1.0l here which has been de-restricted (small curve pipe inside removed) i also removed the side box so its exactly the same as 1.4/1.6 16v ones. has a filter aswell
pm me if your interested
Will it fit snug in a nova bay like the one pictured, or will it need chopping about to fit?
not sure mate, its the same as the one pictured. think all the 12v/16v corsa ones are the same apart from the 1.0l has another box attached to the side, but thats been removed though..
any corsa air box will need chopping/modding to fit the nova inner arch
this is on a corsa b sri (c14se)
looking at it it will need quite abit of modding n platic welding etc

^ that looks the same as my spare, think their all the same apart from the 1.0l having the box on the side that i removed
1.0 air box

I noticed that on the bay aswell. Looks 10 x better than a cone filter. I'm not sure if a SFI box will work as the afm on that 1 is direct to the power cap. I could be wrong. I'm not to keen on the connecting pipe work though.
the afm should be next to the powercap/sfi box
1.2 air box (not the little run part)

just get one of them cheap carbon fiber air filters of ebay

Isnt that bit youve circled something to do with the hot air intake thing for cold starting?
Looks like an SRi box will be needed like you pictured earlier on as that doesnt seem to have one!
And the AFM in the pic i posted has just been connected straight onto the powercrap, normally it would sit further away from the SFi box, thats probably been done to allow the use of the pieces of induction pipe theyve chosen id guess!
And Mieran, thats exactly the look that i dont want tbh, i want it to look as clean and tidy and factory as i can possibly make it:p
ya spud for the cold start iirc
the normal corsa sri box will have nothing on it just the air box
iirc the corsa sport n gsi box are the same as the first pic i uploaded ;)

as pie said corsa sport gsi sri oh and cdx 16v and sxi's are the same
Cool cheers for the info guys, think ill need more than one of them then, one to chop up, and one to donate pieces to go back in, never thought id be going looking for corsa's in the local scrappers or on the bay though lol

I had my tetris jab a few years back if thats any good, oh and im on antibiotics at the mo so i should be all good:d
hi spud
i've just made a start on cutting one of these corsa/tigra air boxes up
to fit a nova (for my new project with a x14xe fitted)
i've had to cut a big wedge of the bottom to get clearance
for the bonnet to shut, all i've got to do now is stick on a new
bottom which i've cut out from a tigra passengers side lower dash shelf.
i'll get photo's when i can!

Nice one, that will be very handy to see, i wonder if this will catch on and we will see a few more peeps doing it this way:thumb:
Big random air filters flapping around in an engine bay just dont look right. Its all about the factory fresh look IMO. A nice pukka install is the way forward.
My thoughts exactly Mike, was looking at coolant hose kits today and i was initially looking at blue to match the car, but im going to go for black for the factory look i reckon:thumb:
like mike said, a big air filter flapping about is no good,
i did want a box of a late gsi (c16se) or a novs sri
the one with no air flow meter but they are very hard to find
so when i saw your thread i thought i'd give it ago
what you got to loose???????????
Lol Spi means Single Point Injection... No carb Needed.. lol
You want one from either a c14se, c16xe, x14xe, or x16xe as the rest have the cold/hot air intake from the exhaust..
Lol Spi mean Single Point Injection... No carb Needed..
Yes i know what SPi means, i also know how it works, a single injector in the back of the carb, hence the 'single point' :p
Wouldnt run very well with just an injector hovering above the inlet manifold lol

No there is no Carb, its single throttle body, would similar to carb but has no Venturi etc. And is a bit less of a bodge..
For all intents and purposes its a carb with an injector on the back, its not a throttle body in the sense of a normal MPi one so stop splitting hairs lol

Lol Yeah I am in a picky mood lmao.. how is the Xe doing anyway?
Yeah, the threat of a poke in the eye with some infraction points will make you behave boy:p
Ive not been to it for a while now, scored a full exhaust system for it and looking up coolant hoses and stuff, got my plug cover body coloured the other week too which is a nice touch methinks, and also means its not a 'red top' as its now a 'blue top' so thats full fat mofo lol
Mines a carbon top then :) with go faster polished lettering too lol
Spot on, did you get a alternator mount, its been that long I can't remember where you were at?
Yeah got that sorted, just need the bolt that goes through the top of the adjuster and into the back of the block, Rob has one so i must remember to swipe it from him as id forgotten lol

Pics or gtfo, How'd you manage that? Carbon layer on top of metal up to/just below the raised lettering?

Wrap that OE alloy item & skim down the raised lettering with a linishing wheel. Jobbed.

That sounds very cool!
That sounds very cool!
Looks it aswell :) its currently at work awaiting some finishing touches :)
Basically its an original L piece (Vauxhall DOHC 16v type) carbon covered, negative 60psi vac, 12 hours in autoclave at 180c then lettering polished.
EDIT: Obviously theres a little more to it lol bleeder fabric, peel ply, bag, trim flash/handsafe etc etc etc but you get the idea.

AW06 made the airbox from a mega cut and shut with plastic weld, he might have pictures if you pm him ;)
