I know it's not a nova but it's retro, it's vauxhall and I'd prefer share my progress on here than get used to a new forum community (I usually fall out with them lol) so here it is, the latest edition to my griffin family.

1982 Chevette 1256 :) My self control has been pretty good lately only having the nova and the corsa vxr so to reward myself now that the nova is coming towards a roadworthy state i thought I'd grap this whilst it was local and up for a reasonable price. I told myself I wasn't going to do anything/spend anything on it till the nova's done but things keep popping up cheap :p so whilst they're there and cheap I best get them as when it comes to finding them it'll be another story :/

Tow bar will be getting ditched:

As will the front seats in favour of some corbeau style retro buckets with head rests, safety first! :

The first shiny :):

Also bought a big wing rwd sump and pick up to fit xe etc and going to see about a rear axle with a slipper in it next week.

For now it's getting an xe (when the nova's on road) so I can have a bit of fun and get used to rwd, but it's definitely not staying xe'd. I haven't driven it yet, keep meaning to fire her up and go round the block but just haven't got round to it. The wellers aren't staying anyway, they came with the car.

I've been advised on a type of axle but not sure yet, may still go mad with the grinder and make it independent rears. But then again I'm lazy lol

Pinto's are quite possibly the most godawful engines to ever end up in a car, I wouldn't use one as a paperweight lol

Connor
14-11-11, 09:24 PM
Thats why i was thinking what was i considering that for lol, as remember doing some research on it. Would love a tb'd xe chevette, especially a 2dr

Dowhatnow?

'I think' it's correct offset, bit of stretch, but of tyre tuck on some nice wheels? Something along then lines lol

So its basically the stretched tyre euro look type thing with a 'hip' new name lol

gunny
16-11-11, 12:34 PM
Kind of, but rather than excessively wide wheels sticking 5" out the arches with epic camber it's more about a flush, proper fitting stance

Spudly
16-11-11, 01:10 PM
Lmfao, you mean the scene kids have finally gotten bored with getting points and prohibition markers on their cars all the time, as the wheels stick out nine miles, so they have decided to make them fit properly these days lol

gunny
16-11-11, 02:26 PM
Lol madness eh? Who'd of thought wheels could fit properly?

17-11-11, 04:49 PM

Sort of an update ish, just bored really. Manta engine mounts have came and a set of pistons, I'll be ordering rebuild kit soon. There's progress over in the nova project thread ;)

Jonezy
30-01-12, 02:45 PM
How does the snap off kit fit to the chevette? Do you need a boss?

gunny
30-01-12, 03:20 PM
Yes you use a steering boss as you normally would, bolt the snap off boss to that then bolt the steering wheel to the snap off boss. I'm going to be fitting a corsa epas column and quick rack (for the sideways days ;) ) hence why I've not fitted it

Rickyb
30-01-12, 03:21 PM
nom nom nom that is all.

gunny
03-04-12, 07:09 AM
Little update, I now have all the rebuild parts for the engine, won a scimitar 4HA rear axle on eBay last night, le wife bought me these for my birthday

http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t277/gunny07/fb4bdd44.jpg

She is also getting me some lime green 3 point harnesses to go with. All I really need now is some suspension and brakes, hopefully I'll be getting a quick rack and corsa epas column to help with the skidding :). Watch this space folks, with the nova now mapped and pretty much finished I'll be hitting this one ;)
