rust
did you post this up on corsasport?
there was someone tempted to swap their corsa/sell it and but a red astra gsi rep with turbo rims, (link to ebay inc.) and it wasn't regd as an xe, logged as 1.6 iirc

Rust is the main one. Check under the carpets etc , everywhere basically. Should pick up a reasonably clean standard ph1 for £800- 1500. Cracking cars and nicer to drive every day than a nova IMO.

Rot from the inside out - some are worse than Novas!
Try to get a later model - they seem to last longer. A gsi with a let is an excellent conbination - the xe just struggles with the extra weight...

theres a red one on ebay, sure the sellers a member on CS. its logged as 1.6 though, otherwise looks tidy. think he was wanting 800+

as said above rust will be the main thing to look out for they are cracking cars tho i do have a soft spot for them i owned one a few years ago was gutted when it was time to sell heres my old one :-) http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y35/brodie_sri/100_4716.jpg

then earlyer on this year me and a mate spotted one on ebay and it was to cheap to miss out on so we went half and got it gathered up for some track days http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y35/brodie_sri/astragsitrackcar.jpg

Rust like funk round the rear archs, under the skirts, round the filler cap, boot floor corners, behind headlights etc same places as Nova's mostly but generally a lot worse. Front suspension top mounts dont seem to last long on Mk3's either as there fitment design IMO is farking naff.
