i've been noticing loads of them recently, just how much faster are they??

i heard as soon as you paint the roof matt black one of the litte red buttons on the gear stick apear(sp) like on MIB then you can fly and drive on the roof of a tunnel and all sorts of cool stuff
sounds good so far... any more performance gains from the straight from hadrian's bonnet?

the button is blue
Black absorbs heat from the sun, gets warm, so heats the air flowing over the car; hot air is lighter, thinner and moves faster so makes the car go faster through the air
Or its just people being pikey and jumping on a bandwagon.
I suspect option #2 lol

i was gonna say, black absorbs heat, the hot air inside the car lifts it slightly off the ground like a hovercraft and reduces friction! oh and at night they corner better because the suns gone! lol

i heard that the black roof increased power by absorbing the heat from the engine bay so pulling the heat backwards which pushes the car forwards and makes the car faster pulling away from the lights by tescos

Black pigment is the ligthest of all colour shades by weight when dry.
mike, thats all well & good if the car gets its original paint removed in the 1st place.....
the black bonnet was more of a muscle car thing btw, and i remember some rwd opel kadetts back in the early 70's having them too...

history lesson time...
the vinyl roof was actually invented for the hillman avenger, made in coventry.. the bloke who sprayed the roofs was a shortar$e & didn't get enough paint on.. they were parked up out in the yard & went rusty. the vinyl roof was the solution... then evey man & his dog wanted one, and lots of escorts got one.

i was told it years back.. and most of the stories from the rootes/hillman factories were true... there was a great one about the imp. they were testing them in kenya & the suspension was falling to bits on the test cars... this was causing real trouble, the local drivers were doing the miles exactly in the time asked, but everyone was at a loss, until one of the rootes engineers discovered the local test drivers were actually running a taxi service and the cars were being run 8 up with goats/chickens, luggage. produce etc.
yea i herd somthing like that about avengers as well.
as for matt black bonnets. rally cars of the 60,s [stoped glare at night] yea they raced at night!!! go figure lol
oh and 70,s police ranger rovers had black bonnets.
and then early capris, mk1 gtxlr could be bought with black bonnets as an optional extra.

ive had it for ages...perfomance wise crap lol... how ever summer...helps you loose weight sweating so makes you go faster i suppooose
I did it purley so i could hide rust/crap paint, and write on it (mines propper chalk board paint not hammerite or matt paint lol!)

the rally thing becomes obvious when you consider that in those days, the rallies started on a sunday & ran till the thursday, and every single mile was counted. they drove day & night, and would drive the length of europe, in the winter!!! the snow glare must have been incredible with a bank of spotlights on
as for the capri.. as i said, it was a muscle car thing... the heat from some enormous v8 would dull the paint on the bonnets...and the black looked cool

best one happened to me a few years back was in a posh part of edgbaston b-ham, when the plod pulled me up, a young copper jumped out and i met him half way. he did about a thousand takes then looked in the car for a kid
