View Full Version : Oil temp and pressure problems?

Can someone check over these temp/pressure numbers and tell me if there's a problem?

I have a mostly standard 20XE, GM 10/40 semi, Mocal 10 row cooler with standard stat in sandwich plate, Stack oil temp/pressure gauges...

Road use:
Temp sits between 80 and 105-110C depending on tootling/country road abuse
Pressure sits at 25psi idle and 60-70psi acceleration/driving

Track use:
Temp goes up to 120C ish
Pressure drops to around 35-45psi (lower when cornering) and sits a little lower when idling too

This sounds too low to me? Is the 120C temp OK or should I look to aid cooling even more?

I know I've started a thread on this before but I thought the cooler would sort it, and ideally I won't have to put different oil in it just for trackdays?!

Cheers!

Not sure on the pressure iain but on my guage which is the standard dash one the needle sits at around 3/4 full when idleing once warm but if i let it tick over and get hot itll drop betweeen 1/2 and 3/4 ill try find some pressure info for you.

Cheers Damo, I can't find any info on what a healthy XE's pressure should be!

Grr annoying, gotta be this information somewhere, maybe I'll have an ask on MIG.

Thinking a new ZLET pump would improve pressure but don't want to do that if it's just temperature related.

Is the oil stat working? if so stick a bigger oil cooler on. Your also better off using a fully synthetic oil too.

Have you got a standard oil gauge??

Whats the lowest pressure you ever see??

Oil stat is working as far as I know, the cooler felt very warm to the touch after a session

I have a standard light but no gauge, it started going skitz so I got some proper items

Lowest pressure I see is 20psi on idle when very warm. And when driving probably 35psi after a corner and 40-45psi on the straights (not sure why corners make a difference unless I need a baffled sump also?)

Check the SBD web site
60 psi is ok 25-30 on idle is ok should not go over 125c with full synth oil

I can't find the info on SBD site, got a link?

Also what temps are advisable on semi synth oil?

Cheers for the info mate.
