Followed the two wires there they both seem to go to the dash where the original display would be !

Would the other one be an earth for the light and run to the dash also ?

The alternator has a thick red 12v to the batt and a blue/white("trigger") wire to the dash board light.

Two thin wires? This is a "three-wire" alternator then. One is ignition light, the other is ignition + used to turn the alternator "on". I don't have access to TIS wiring diagrams at the moment, the 'puter has thrown a hissyfit and needs it re-installing, so I can't be 100% on that. It may not be ignition +, it might be perm live - what colours are those wires. The Blue/White is the alternator light on the dash - that's a fact. What colour is the other one. If it's red, it's perm live, if it's black, it's ignition. Being a thin wire, it ain't the ground!!!!
