View Full Version : job interview....
well i had my biggest interview to date yesterday to work on the railway as a new direction for me as i wont be going back to driving, i must of been a bit out of touch because i had no idea i had to do an exam when i got therelol, also a drugs and alcohol test is to come , yesterdays test i had to fill in each section within six mins, and move onto the next, and the questions were maths and stuff to catch you out, maths not being my strong pointlol,
once that part was done i was interviewed by two people in a room that looked like the board room from the Apprentice, quite scary stuff, and got to wait untill tommrow to see if i got the job!
is this what all interviews are like as ive never worked for a proper firm before??
Last interview I went for had a (small) test. Think yourself lucky you didn't have to do a presentation too lol
When should you hear by? I'll probably be waiting another month on mine
i will hear friday if i get the job, then ive got two weeks intensive training to get my health and safety tickets to work on track, plus a medical and drugs test, was nice to find an employer who understood my medical problem and didnt hold it against me like every other interview i had, if i get the job i get to work over the christmas three days and new years aswell, (i hate them times of year and would rather work lol)

Good luck mate hope you get it
Good luck on the interview mate, hope you get the job, tests are a pain in zee butt,I had a interview on Tuesday, gotta go back for a second One now, which is a practical test, just waiting on what day now
Just got back from my interview, they had their minds made up before I had even got there. There's going to be some responsibility on my head in a couple of weeks which I'm not used to lol
Best of luck! Thankfully i've never had a test at any of the jobs i've gone for. At Clarks we had group bonding sessions to show we could work as a team but that was about it.

Most will include some form of test, or a verbal technical section, but few as formal as what you describe. It's very rare they'd put in anything to catch you out, they normally try to give you every possible chance. Ive been interviewed in places from a conference room to the bosses office, to boardroom style rooms.
I tend to take the view that any company who asks me to give them the same information more than once, wait excessively long on the day, or for an offer, I don't want to work for. That said, I'd also never be late for an interview!
Good luck with it!
Good luck mate-hope it went well.
Most of my job interviews have been in the pub lol
most jobs round here have some small tests, usually english tests....................hmmm i wonder why

best of luck with the job/interview merris
I had a psychometric test for my first 'career' job interview, it was company policy but the actual resource manager/project manager didnt care and showed me the results in the interview lol.
The biggest pain in the ass was filling in an SC form..... There was only so many times I could cope with writing my name and address in block capitals :(
Latest job interview was ace, turn up to a barn, talk shizzle about cool car stuff and get the job offer there and then, happy days and no faff.

Forgot to add also a personality test in wich I answered a load of questions online and come back at me in the interview with the same type of questions and compared them to the online ones to make sure I wasn't lying
You sorted things with work yet?

Think yourself lucky you don't have to do DV then lol
I'd fail that with all the dodgy grumble I look at lol
I went for an assessment day once that included verbal and numerical reasoning, computer checking and diagramming. There were about 60 of us in what looked like an exam hall and I felt soooooo out of my depth. lol some girl infront of me was nearly crying after one of the tests. Needless to say, I didnt get the job.

I was doing verbal and numerical reasoning tests last week.
Hope you get a good result Mr Merris
i once had a job related to the railways.. i had to clean bogies
i was steam cleaning the undercarriage on rolling stock that then got repainted...
i can't actually remember my last proper job interview...... i do remember applying for a job as a landrover partsman(the dealership was 200yds from home), and the hr woman got me to meet them at the dealerships citroen garage in the next town.. which i thought was odd, but never paid it much thought... so i sat down drinking tea, then they told me that they would be prepared to offer me the citroen assistant parts manager job... so i pointed out that i'd applied for landrover etc... she said they'd stuck 2 jobs onto the same ad to save money & it was the citroen job, which i told them i didn't want, then they told me what it paid, and i stood up and left.. i'd never been so insulted in a job interview in my life.... i never finished the tea either
I read that as group bondage for a second there!! :wtf:
Would of been a hell of a lot more interesting!

Lol we had a team building excessive the last week of are training after being together for over 5 months, what a waste of money and time that was
Team Building for us is the lunch run and seeing who can go fastest or the most sideways on the test route to Tescos, then giggling like children lol
Our team building consisted of sitting describing who we'd like to be stuck in a lift with and then trying to guess who the other person was talking about.
our team building these days involves a trip to a local pub.
lol our is putting other peoples sammichs in a vacum bag & making toasties in the autoclave lol lol lol

Lol were all ment to decided what we do from now on so its other a pub crawl or when one of the lads has his new boxing match might be going there
The toughest interview i had was for auto windscreens, we were there all day and it involved car identification tests, 3x interviews, product technology tests.
Must admit actually, the interview for my work was actually very demanding :/ did a slide show presentation, Q&A with peices of work Id made etc etc. Got the job so meh.

Teehee lol
then they told me what it paid, and i stood up and left..
I've never understood why some places don't advertise wage rates. Boeing don't; with them apparently its an american thing. I did apply for a job once with a two-bit joke of an IT company who I won't mention right now (don't ask, it was local and I was desperate lol) and the job ad said wage rate was "DoE, negotiable, competetive". Prior to applying I asked them directly what the wage range was - so I had an idea of whether or not it was worth my time - They avoided the question by just replying with "DoE, negotiable, competetive". Yeas, what does that translate to?! I applied anyway, and in my covering letter I pretty much said I was looking for £28k minimum. Didn't get the job. lol
...in fact the company was so useless, I even had an email saying "thanks for applying, but you weren't successful" for a job I didn't even apply for, followed by one for the job I did apply for. LOL fail.
UPDATE!!!! had a phone call from the firm yesterday night, and they are sending me for a medical now so im not sure if im in? they have asked to see a copy of a letter stating that my epilepsy is under control and will take it from there, the lady said that the railway in general dosnt take people on unless they have been seziure free for 10 years so im not to hopefull now. also i signed a letter there saying that if i get to the medical stage and fail ( yes i made them aware before i signed it that im epileptic) i have to pay the £70 for it. bit confused now:confused::(
Thats a bit off charging you for failing when they know why you might fail....
If you were lying and failed I can see how they would want to charge.

If you were lying and failed I can see how they would want to charge.its a risk i guess, but im taking it as i want a job and dont want to be a bum on the dole, im some ways it anoys me the fact employers wont employ me because ive had a few break dancing sessions, im the same as everyone else and feel i get discriminated against because of it.

Merris, as you know my mrs suffers from the same thing as you, she has been turned down for countless jobs because of her condition, so well done for getting this far
Hope it works out for you, if it doesn't dont give up
checked my email, im booked in at 10am next week to see a doctor and have a full medical, it asks for a letter stateing its under control (witch it is) and that cost me £25 from the doctors, could end up being over £150 out of pocket trying to get a job in total lol

Who's the job for mate? I used to do the training in the railway for PTS, Lookout, COSS, PICOP and the likes. The stuff is straight forward enough if that's the role you'll be doing.
The medical is a quick 10 min with hearing test, lung capacity, drug test, and a listen to youre heart. They may not allow you to work alone but if it's under control they obviously consider that.
Good luck

pts im starting as, and they are paying for the £500 course witch isnt bad, just hope that it dosnt lead to no job, cheers for the advice +rep
just got back from the medical, and failed. they will not employ anyone with what i have for 10 years. im out of pocket after being charged doctors letters at £25, £70 in the medical, and about £50 in fuel and favors getting people to drive me about. i give up looking for work, no one employs people with epilepsy even if its under control. i hate sitting on the dole, its ****. but if thats how they want it FINE! worlds gone mad.

Thats harsh, especially since they were aware of your medical history. Nice little money earner for the docs there

Now I want KFC. lolim NEVER working again. i cannot join the army neither so if there is a war ill never get called up because they dont employ men with what i have, not sure were i stand on a cscs card, as im advised from working alone or at heights. or in situations were i may endanger others, not even cook or look after my child alone incase something happens. !!!!
Im sorry to hear that mate, thats ridiculous.
And they wonder why theres so much crime in this country..
