Do you drive around with the window open when it rains? lol

In all seriousness, i would expect either rot (on my cinq it was on the firewall itself down the back of the block...diddent find it till i went to put a new engine in it.) or a leaky seal on the door/window. :thumb:

Battery tray will be goosed, remove battery, remove plastic tray ( if it's still there lol ) have a dig about and expect to see some holes,

Battery tray is mint as is bulkhead. I removed the battery to waxoil it when first had the car. So maybe just the door seals. How about the windscreen wiper arm rubbers? Used to leak through there on my capri!

Check the floor grommits havent popped out, or worse the floor isnt rotton around the front chassi leg . Also check any loom entrys as they might be leaking (that is if someone has put a new loom in drivers side for 16v etc). Also check the sunroof if you have one.

I had this but it was because i never shut the door right. You know how if you dont shut it right it latches and locks but there is a 10mm gap round the door. yep

Il have to do a bit more investigating! The shell is pretty rust free so can't see it being the chassis rotten. Maybe the grommets in the floor will check them, cheers.

The wiper arms don't go near the inside of the car, does it have a tilt and slide sunroof?

What you should try is a water test, get a mate with a hose or watering can to pour the water round all the seal while you are in the car checking.

i've heard of windscreen rubbers causing it, but get the carpet out & dry it out, then try & find the leak.

I once had it leaking through a perrished grommit. Changed, job done. Cost about 50p

Another thing it could be is your heater matrix is leaking, are you loosing water at all from your header tank?

On one of my old Novas I had a hole behind the inner arch which originally had the aerial wire going through it, because it had a new wing on and had no aerial then I'd never noticed the original hole which was letting water through.

Heater matrix was what came to my mind, water was leaking in via my heater blower and down the inside of the bulkhead.

Yea heater matrix then. Centre console and shelf out, 4 x 7mm bolts underneath, then 2 more hold the back of the matrix up, 2 pipes in the bay and jobs a good'un!

Then proceed to spill water all over the carpet lol

i sometimes get a bit in mine because i've wired a manual fan switch in the corsa to were gsi's have front fogs and the grommet doesnt sit flush, comes through the scuttle and down but its not soaking wet, just a bit damp after its rained for ages

Had a look today.Double checked battery tray, its perfect, cant see any aditional holes that have been drilled to leave water in,the heater matrix is fine as it doesnt use and water since iv had it. The chassis leg and floor gromets are fine,it only seems to leak when its left standing. Next up is pour a bucket of water over it while im sat inside i think.Need to sort it before the cold weather comes or il be cleaning frost from the inside too!

Check the door drains to see if they are blocked, the doors can fill with water and leak past the plastic membrane.

When it is standing does it sit on the flat or at an angle?

Do you have a sunroof?

cossienova

It's wet in the middle and towards the centre console not near the door which makes me think the door seals are ok. It has had a new screen a few years back though so maybe that needs re sealing. It's always parked on the flat, pulled the mats up today so will get a better idea tomorrow what area it's coming from!

It doesn't have a sunroof.

If you can be bothered I'd take the carpet out, you will never dry it out properly before the winter sets in, you may have a crack in the floor pan somewhere.

Yeah first job for the weekend is take the carpet out then have a proper look what's happening. It smells like an old dog in there at the moment!

Check where the throttle cable goes through the bulkhead (under battery tray) and accross to the seam where the floor pan joins the inner wing

Seen cases in both instances where similar problems have occured due to the above areas been rotten on seemingly tidy cars and it was very difficult to trace until all the carpets and dash was out.

Also had a leaking screen seal but this caused damp carpets behind pedal area

Thanks, il have the carpets out and have a good look, it could be something like that il get a tube of silicone ready! We've had our other nova 16 years and it's never left a drop of water in! Poxy car!

Dont use silicone, use proper body sealer or bonding like Sikoflex. I have heard silicone contains ingredients that can accellerate corrosion, not sure how true that is.

Got body sealant here so will use that instead, nice one.
