How do I tell the diffrences between F10 gearboxes without taking it apart. Have on sitting here, don't know if it came off a 1.0 or 1.2, or if it's 4 or 5 speed?

There are numbers stamped on it if it means anything to anyone?

90 121 211
00 761 24

Cheers

Adrian

Adrian look at the end casing that normally sits under the passenger chassis leg if theres a big 32mm ish nut there it'll be a 4 speed if its got a blank casting thenn it'll be a five speed.

I know on F13's there is a stamp on the end casing with numbers,

W418 ( wide ratio gears with 4.18 diff ratio ) or
C378 ( close ratio gears with 3.78 diff ratio )

Etc etc

These numbers are teeped ( sp ) and usually very faint but will tell you whats inside it,

Edit, the F10 is the same as Iain told me his box spec by looking at the numbers on his sport box.

The 1 litres have different sized bolts that bolt them to the engine. Think there 8mm or somthing? ohc engines are about 12mm.

Are the 4 speeds not actually a smaller box in physical size?

I'm sure the 5 speed box is wider/longer ? I'm sure I read they have a larger end cap to cover the 5th gear or are Haynes telling me lies?

ye, the 5 speeds have an extra bit on the end. Thats why they dont have the big nut like the 4 speed as mentioned above.

There is a big nut in the middle of the end plate on this box, but my Sport has one the samee as well!

Numbers on the end plate are: A196 52 W418.

So I know now it's not an SR box at least which is what I was told it was.

I thought SR boxes had a w418 gearset though...?! I'll check what my SR F10 looks like later

I always thought SR's had a close ratio box?

no 1.3 SR's had a 4.1 diff with a wide gearset.

That said I had a 1.4SR engine which had a CR gearset, although vauxhall dont list a f10cr box.
