Hey folks, wasnt going to put a wee thread up for this as i didnt think i was going to do much with it but as it were i just couldnt leave it alone. Having ran it for a good few months now enjoying the cheap n cheerfulness of the tax, insurance and fuel bills makes it a no brainer really to keep it & make it a bit more mine.
So for prosperities sake a little W.I.P. thread to document things

Bought it from Jaysnova in June this year who done a lot of work on it throughout last winter to rescue it. (See his thread link below)
http://www.pngclub.com/forum/showthread.php?158061-JaysNova-TDelicious&highlight

So from this when Jaysnova got it....

TDs awesome, weird though as the fuel guage doesnt really move. Really good on fuel but then dodgy guages are all the rage in Novas. Going on 400 miles now to £40 worth of diesel and still quarter of a tank left! Ive never seen that sort of mileage ever!

yasss! good to see youve put a thread up man. intresting to see what you do ;)

Yes next update is interior, ive just pretty much got it the way i want it inside for now bar the front speakers in the doors as the new door cards had holes in them :( So will need to make a build or something so that they look a bit tidier and replace them for alpine ones to match the rest of the ICE. :thumb:

September 2011

So the red/grey sri interior was just a temporary measure for comfort.
I had bought this courtenay sport interior that used to belong to Bainyboy Sr at the beginning of the year for one of my other projects but then with a change of plans sold them to moffat regretfully. A month or 2 ago he said his plans had changed again so i snapped up the chance to get them back. :d

Fitted electric windows while i was at it and fully waxoyld the inside of all panels!

October 2011

Finally got my Genuine Gsi back box on (supplied by Iain, Nov4_sport) Cheers Iain, also fitted front and rear splitters. Put one on the rear as i hate seeing the bottom of the spare wheel well so it just tidies it up. Plus the front one acts as a speed bump feeler as Dunfermline is riddled with rediculous speedbumps so if it rubs hard then i know ive not got much clearence for the sump.
And also fitted the Novatech fuel cap i bought from Gary_126, Cheers Gary :thumb:

Splitters are both Laguna items, both with no vents but one comes to a point in the middle as a nova front end does and the one on the rear is just flat so must be from different models.

Cheers Guys, happier with the looks and feel of this than the mk1 gte rep i done a couple years ago.

October 2011

Now comes the boring stuff but has to be done. Having already waxoyld inside the doors etc. i though i better turn my attention to the underside.
So basically bumpers and skirts off, rub down and clean up floor, inner arches and check & clean rear panel, front panel/crossmember and sills.
Bought 12 cans of rubberised stonechip so i could get this one done and the track car but managed to near enough use it all on just this car.
Gave it a few days to dry and settle and then black hammerite the whole lot. Also over the winter plan to remove axle, bottom arms and anti-roll bar etc. to get them powder coated candy red.

Cheers mate :thumb:

Well got the rest of it finished last night at my brothers work on the ramp so i could do the floor properly. So used approx 2 litres of red oxide primer on the bits that needed rubbing down and treating, 15 litres of rubberised stonechip and 5 litres of black hammerite. Maybe a bit overkill and will slow me down no end but hopefully will make the car last quite a bit longer. Not to mention it looks a hell of a lot better :d
So thats it pretty much up to date for now. Few other odds n sodds to tidy over the winter, get some powder coating done, and a wheel change of some kind which is yet to be decided.....

Yeh i learned that when i done the white car so made sure this one didnt go patchy, a lot of it went into the chassis legs and any crevices so its not just where you see it.

A wee update.
Converted my Small block td to 5 Stud without the use of big block hubs and shafts.
The rear axle has to be converted in the conventional way by having the cavalier plate welded to the axle in place of the nova ones.
Front was slightly more tricky, knew there had to be a way of doing it without modifying driveshafts or flanges so set about doing some investigating. Eventually found that Meriva VXR's and CDTI's run on a small block engine aswell and having checked the dimensions of the hub flanges found that they were the perfect fit for the nova hubs with the required 22 splines.
Sourced them from 2 different dealers down south who had them as old stock and so it got them for a very nice price.

Meriva vxr or 17cdti. from the dealer at £109 + vat. I didnt pay that obviously because thats just rediculous, found 1 on ebay from a dealer and another 1 on a parts search website. Seemed to be old stock or stock that doesnt move as i got them for £45 each posted. It would cost £40 to get flanges machined at a machine shop as i did on a previous project.
Part number is GM 13211373

So after much investigating and recommendations i decided the best DIY Leather Restoration product to try was going to be Gliptone Scuffmaster, i purchased this along with Gliptone Leather Cleaner and Gliptone Leather Conditioner. Quite frankly the results were superb as it pretty much looked as though the leather was going to need replacing but having set to work with this stuff its almost like new. So i'd highly recommend it and i think the pictures speak for themselves :thumb:

Had a spare Digi Dash sitting so decided to fit it in the TD. Fitted in the usual manner and upon startup straight away noticed the difference in the rev counter being way higher. Done a bit research and found the td counter is ran of an alternator signal so the pulse is different, found a thread on MIG about it and picked up on a guy called DOM who started making pulse convertors with great results. So found a link to his website called picbits.co.uk and found exactly what i was looking for, this pulse convertor can be used to setup the rev counter on diesels and V6's or basically anything that doesnt have the required pulse signal for the vehicle. Its wired inline on the rev counter wire and requires a posy and an earth. Has buttons on it to adjust the pulses and then a set button to keep it that way. Quite simply tweeked with it until it was pretty much what i thought it should be set at and hey presto, 1 pretty near as damn it accurate rev counter.
The next issue was the oil pressure guage as the td only had a switch and with it being an isuzu engine a vauxhall sensor would not fit. So i bought a 1/8 npt adaptor and pressure sender so i could have the original switch connected and then get the pressure sender in to have the guage working too. Even wired in the Diesel Light :d
Job done and all is working well :thumb:

Well thought it was time to get the car up on stands and get the winter salt all cleaned off from the underside, wasnt too bad to be fair so painting the underside really helped as the salt didnt stick http://www.justopelvauxhall.com/images/smilies/woop.gif

Got some more items powder coated for the engine bay etc. so got them fitted and also painted up the exhaust with High temp paint as it was letting the underside down. So all in all a wee bit cleaner and fresher looking.

Just removed them from corsa front seats at the scrappies mate, you just need to trimdown the edges on them so that they go all the way down into the rear seat so that the top of them rests on top of the leather/fabric!

Cheers mate. My disc axle is done using the long nova cable and the mk2 cavalier estate short cable, so its through the standard mounts! Keeps it simple that way :thumb:

Just mounts to the usual bit on the nova as standard mate as it uses the Nova long cable, its only the short side you need to change for the mk2 cavy estate item.
Get them on ebay or possibly still a motorfactor, i bought a couple just incase. I'l get the part number for you from ones ive bought :thumb:
