Im sure this has been done before but Im looking at my old Sony explode head unit, Sub,Amp and 6X9 thinking can I turn this into an entertainment system in the garage. In other words I need to make it run off the mains (240V)

Is this possible? where is the best place to buy the transfomer from and what one would be people recommend?
I have searched the net and theres alot if geeky people out there which is confusing me more about which one to buy.

I use one of these http://www.rapidonline.com/Electrical-Power/15v-25a-Smps-with-Digital-Display-85-1824 for bench testing our 'head units' and amp setups etc.

A little pricey but a damn fine power supply for all things fun

Might work but 4Amps is risking it a fair bit.

or just buy a toroidal coil like this LINK (http://www.rapidonline.com/Electrical-Power/Toroidal-Transformer-300va-0-12v-0-12v-88-3831/?source=googleps&utm_source=googleps) and wire it up in parallel but make sure you attach a bridge recitfier into it all like this LINK 2 (http://www.rapidonline.com/Electronic-Components/35A-Bridge-rectifiers-29671/?sid=49ccbb0b-c936-4ae0-8249-2b4912528ec8)

it will work out slightly cheaper for the same power

Whats the Farad rating on it? We used to have a 1F one at school that you could charge up and weld a spanner to both legs lol

I've used 3Farrad caps the size of that little red tootyfruity looking one in that pic lol, just can cope with much current /voltage etc.
