View Full Version : corsa 1.7 td isuzu trooper turbo fitment
as above has anyone see the trooper 3.1 turbo fitted on the 1.7 engine
also what is the most anyone has had or seen power wise out of these engines i have seen up to about 115bhp but unsure if they will go more :)
I have seen 143bhp out of a 1.5 :) with a VVT on it. Dervy has a RHF5 IHI (same as a trooper) turbo on his and that goes well. I plan on fitting one to mine over winter!
Oh and btw my 1.5 was 104bhp and 132lbsft without an intercooler and a standard exhaust!
ideal im also planning to do the trooper over winter if it wont fit i will make it but got a lot to do clutch and overheating it got front mounted pump mods and acututor pipe off and feels quicker than my nova is running 120bhp do you know what yours is running as it is
no but it fast for what it is.. you will struggle fitting it as there is no space. I would say the rad will have to be moved but it will be worth it.
going to fit big block box and new sports clutch i had made then will get rolling roaded the local chap that does all rolling road sessions laughed when i told him

Thought I'd add my 5p worth,
Well I've got a 4JG2 turbo (3.1 one) fitted to mine and this weekend as it was dry, I got brave and turned the boost to 38psi, needless to say I need new piston rings after a fun 13 miles, I didn't notice the lack of compression at first, it was the fact there was a nice smell of boiling oil on my turbo as my dip stick kept gettin spat out under full boost along with a bay full of oil... oh well
Lmao, what did it go like though?
I have big block box on mine to.. I want to lighten the fly wheel a bit as it revved better with the 1.5 fw

My tip is rolling start, it will wheel spin in 4th on dry, and I really need the WR5th gear now, but tbh the lag is awful.. I wonder if anyone no here has done a bi-turbo diesel before... one way to beat the lag! :)
yer im going to use f16 long ratio and you fitted an oil cooler yet ? mine revs well on the none turbo flywheel but it cooks it nuts if have a play. the 1mm you machined off your pump would you say it was enough or could you go more with it ? going to put my side exit exhaust back on it made a big diffenance 64mm turbo to end no silences:)
I have looked into it and it wouldnt work well, reason is the bigger turbo runs through the little one, ie the little one pull the big one to make it boost. my issue is i think the little one (say a standard RHF4) would explode if you try running that much CFM through it.. Is it better than before then? or not worth doing :)
It helped in a way as the fuel were there straight away and you dont need to mess about with the max fuel screw then and risk running high EGT. You can feel a difference. I am stuck now though as my turbo is far to small. i get a huge kick of power then it just goes flat after 3500rpm.. more CFM needed!
Btw dont fit a petrol wide ratio box, diesels are loads higher ratio!

Wat about twin RF4's? Just as an idea
i have an f18 diesel box that came with the engine will try it
have you ever looked into the n/a cam got one at work and was going to have a look to see if it better bit like they do with the petrols
what in series or parallel? i have also thought about this but theres not a lot of room tbh.
Don't know tbh. are they any different ?

its a lot worse than first expected.... 38psi seems to do some damage...
Ill just list what needs replacing as a result
Some valves
2 new pistons
crank
exhaust manifold
intercooler
and a new turbo
im taking a guess by the looks of the damage as to how it happened, and it looks like the wastegate flap has "fused" itself shut from heat??
tbh ive not heard of this happening before but its exactly what looks like to me, im just assuming that a surge couldnt escape and voila.... funked engine
its a sad day :(
