View Full Version : Nova + 17" wheels

This topic annoys me... whenever I find a set of wheels that I truly love they are Nova unfriendly mainly due to being 17" and above.

I recently came across another set of rims - 'OZ Leggenda' which have dimensions that got me very excited until I saw that they were only available in 17. I know there are a few designs that are available in 15" or 16" but these tend to be wheels that have been played too many times and have lost their specialness.

To cut to the chase... please post pics your Nova or of a Nova you know that is running 17" rims. Wide shots preferred as I wanna see how the car sits on them. If it looks good then I'm gonna consider it, if it looks utter sh*te it's back to the drawing board.

handling is crap, i ran 205 40 17. arch rubbage was common, and passengers were a no-no. if you are going wide arches then maybe.

the right wheels in a 17 in look cool though.

17'' Sometimes looks good on a nova if its lowered and the front and back height match each other, and if the wheels arent cheap cheesy things.

imo you need skirts and mk2 bumpers to pull off 17's

look waaaaay to big on mk1's

Yes I have thought about how short the bumpers would look with larger wheels would look like the car has been raised. In saying that, the Snowplough is low to the ground and the GTE rear is a good improvement over the pov spec one I used to have.

I've been looking at wheel & tyre dimensions and comparing sizes
with 195/45/15 - Dia: 556.5mm Circumference: 1748.3mm
with 195/40/16 - Dia: 562.4mm Circumference: 1766.8mm
with 195/35/17 - Dia: 568.3mm Circumference: 1785.4mm

So really between 16" and 17" there is only a 6mm difference in height of the wheel & tyre.

Doesn't sound like a lot, but check the difference between 195/50/15 and 195/45/15 and how different they look.

Thanks everyone, still difficult to decide it looks nice some times but then again can look too big. Argh... why can't they make really nice modern quality wheels in 16"?

my old one, handled like a bag of ****, rubbed on full lock, rear passengers was a nightmare, rear arches were rolled an flared as were the front ones and still rubbed, i think the offset was well out, but i was happy, i was 20, and i had 17s on my nova. lol. Jesus that was 10 years ago.

My old 1.0 with ATP Helicopters in ET49 offset. Caught the inner arch slightly, could have been sorted with a few blows with a hammer if you wanted to! Not worth it in my opinion, car was totally undriveable, and a 1.0 trying to turn the 17's didn't work either!!

Think I'm siding with the fact that they look a tad big. Thanks for all the pics though. Looks like I'm gonna have to keep searching for wheels. Wonder if the Chinese have exact copies of the top wheels? lol
