Hi all,

Another question I'm afraid as I've managed to break the 1300 8v engine in my Nova rally car.

I'd like to fit a 1400 16v engine really but have read somewhere that these can't be mounted to my F10 Gearbox?

It's got a straight cut quaife gear set so wan't to hang on to it!

Cheers

The f10 innards will fit into an f13 casing. The f13 will fit onto the 1.4 16v

I see, I've got an old F13 box that came off the car with knackard gears so if I can just swap the inners over then that's great. I take it the paddle clutch will fit the 1400 16v OK as well?

I see there are various guides around for doing an X14XE conversion into a Nova but how easy is it really?

I was thinking of keeping my twin 40 carbs and just getting a 16v inlet manifold for them.

Well, the bottom end will fit straight onto the original mounts. Remember, you will need some sort of ignition system

Like a MBE loom and ECU I guess?

Whats gone on the old engine? Apart form the carbs, is anthing salvageable?

It over revved and went down to 3 cylinders on my last rally so took it into a mate of mine who's a mechanic locally who took the head off, he's told me it's bent at least 1 valve, damaged the rally cam, top of one of the pistons, cam followers etc with some bits floating around under the rocker and others no where to be seen so likely to be elsewhere in the engine! Also he thinks the vernier has shifted putting the timing out! Sounds like I did a proper job of ruining it!

If it's loads of hassle to fit a 16v then I was just going to hunt down a well built 8v rally engine as would be a easier swap and could re use exhaust, carbs and inlet.

Found out from the guy I bought the car from originally that the engine has a bigger valve head and a lightened and balanced bottom end using ARP bolts. I guess it could be rebuilt but is it worth it bearing on mind the 1300 8v is only ever going to have limited power and I don't know what other damage has been done elsewhere.

16v is the way to go mate for the little hastle of fitting it.

I'm thinking 16v as well mate, espically as ive got a f13 casing for my gearset already. Anyone know of a decent modified 16v lump with everything to do the conversion for sale?

Or a 16v rally car that needs a reshell!

Alrite mate, I know where a proper 1400 16v engine is. Built by martin bowyer. Its a similar spec 2my own 1 at bout 170bhp. Its 4.5k tho, dunno wot ur budget is stretching to. Its already got mbe and throttle bodies, its a proper little thing.

The only modification ull need to do 2fit the 16v is cut out the inner wing 2allow the alternater 2fit.

If you need any advice on nova rally cars or need bits jus pm me. I specialise in building nova and corsas

Cheers mate
