OMP will be a 6 point bolt in dash dodger. £150 imo.

Thanks, I assume these are good enough for track days etc?

Depends what you want out of the car and are happy with, it'd certainly add a little protection in a crash, I'm rather unconvinced on any noticable or worthy performance/stiffness gain though tbh.

well its really just to protect me if I roll, I went on a track day and enjoyed it but realised everyone else was a bit more prepared than my standard sr!

I am looking at getting a reasonable 1.6 or 2.0
Lowered suspension, wide tyres, front and back strut braces and a roll cage to protect me.
I think that should get me started and be reasonably competitive.

Mark wtf are you on! these new aw the same as SD cages, there £400+ new, and will be good for £250 min! and there just as good as any other bolt in cage, and i can tell you that any cage does will add stiffness, mine can be jacked on one corner and lift the hole car on one side.

i agree with scott, i paid £165 bargain price for mine, due to a poor ebay listing and crap pictures. i am 100% confident that i could resell for £250+ anyday. mine is fitted and have not yet driven the car but it feels stiffer just working on it so it must be different on the road. Mine is a OMP 6 point cage.

The cage is as good as the person fitting it. I have used OMP in the past and they are like every over bolt in cage. They do normally need a little bit of persuasion to fit correct though. Just make sure its not bent!

SD/OMP full cages usually sell for £250. I advertised mine a month or so ago for that and it sold for that. However sometimes you're lucky like i was and got it for around £150. I would recommend an sd one though, i have had both and they fit together much better i found.

I once had to cut up a SD cage. After that, I will never buy one. Toffee is the only word I can describe.

Sold mine for £250 but had extra bar welded in to make X section.

I prefer the OMP cages tbh, the way they bolt up is much better than SD

I reckon the one side lifting up when jacked up is more to do with the suspension

My MK4 coupe was low and it did that as soon as you lifted the front end, then again they have a strong chassis

On my old GSi with no cage and full avo coilovers etc you jack the car and it would twist still, if you opened the door it would twist even more and you would have to drop the car to the ground to close it again, so IMO it's the cage holding it ridged.

Oh and i agree on the bolting together of the OMP cage over the SD one.

6 point bolt ins can be had for £150 on ebay etc, as 2 people in the thread have already said, so why pay £250 for one? I personally wouldn't give more than £150 for one, and the 600 odd that they cost new is out of whack with the fact you can get a much better weld in option for a little more.

People that got them for £150 were lucky they normally got for £250

Why is a weld in going to be better ? What happens if you want to remove it for any reason?

Weld ins are going to be stiffer, stronger, and they're generally better constructed and actually designed to do their job, rather than the bolt ins that tie in to wheelarches and a couple of bits of piss thin floorpan. If you want something removable then fair enough, but tbh I would either use a properly designed weld in cage or not bother myself. Only reason I looked at a bolt in was to adapt it and weld it in, but the tubing isn't the best and the angles are wrong to make it tie into anywhere with a decent amount of strength. (And when I looked at them there was plenty around for £150ish)

Only 2 roll cages I can find for sale atm:

Nova (crap design though) £150 start (I wouldn't say it was worth that even tbh without any kind of roof bracing): http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/nova-roll-cage-/150676503825?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item231504fd11#ht_500wt_1413

Gumtree, search for roll cage in the UK, only brings up one 6 point OMP which is for a pug, but still: http://www.gumtree.com/p/cars-vans-motorbikes/205-gti-6-point-rollcage/89673784 £150

edit: And as above a 'like new' OMP cage for £200, so probably £150 if the paint you were gonna redo anyway is a bit battered and dinged up no?
