Cant seem to find my old thread i started for the daily  So heres a new one :thumb:
Bog standard 1.2L on Cav slabs. Love it! apart from the 4speed box on motorways :(

Gave it a wash/clean/good going over today so took a few sneaky pics:

Thought it came up well for a 26year old car.

Also had a go at making some euro rear lights too :)

http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/hh160/bodmin344/DSCF0325.jpg

Got some pressed metal plates for it too, UK legal ones not the german ones as the coppers are getting pretty hot on that sort of stuff about here now. Only other plans for it are banded SR steelies and get it low low :d but that will be after it comes out of winter storage. thinking about flocking my MK2 dash and putting it in with the calibra leathers i won off Ebay but im not sure? Any opinions appreciated :)

Gonna take it off the road for a few days to sort the rust bubbles on the front panel coming through, want to catch it before it gets too bad!

Mk2 dash and leathers is an option of win for sure. I do prefer the Recaro leathers I found for mine (astra, manta etc) but they were a bit of a find to be fair and at a bargain price. Might be worth looking into other marques options though as it'll be the same cut and weld onto GSI Subframes job as calibra leathers.

Youll be glad to here ive decided to keep it for the time being :thumb:

Bought some Uprated Jamex Shocks for it off ebay too, £80 delivered brand new! so they will be going on with the 40mm springs ive got, dont want it silly low as yet because its still my daily.

Also toying with the idea of a Fiat turbo engine, either the one out of the GT punto or the 20v out of a coupe, but need to get my other nova done first :(

Have you checked out the arch clearance? My 6.5's were tight with the arches tapped a bit.

They do look quite awesome though, like bigger RFX's

_Jake
23-12-11, 08:37 PM
They sit flush with the arches, so im going to be careful with how low i go, minimal stretch should make this work..

MK999
23-12-11, 08:39 PM
Bear in mind that even at 40mm or so, the tyres poke into the arches, as they're square.

_Jake
23-12-11, 08:40 PM
if worst comes to worst i can have the arches rolled a bit, They went under a corsa C okay so i guess ill just have to wait and see!

Only other thing is that ive got to make/get some spigot rings as the center bore is bigger than the flange, but thats not alot of work

Got some better pictures of them:

Turns out there actually 8j after i measured them:
http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/hh160/bodmin344/DSCF0399.jpg

Wont be having monumental stretched tyres like that on them though

MK999
26-12-11, 06:55 PM
8's will never fit with standard arches, iirc burgo tried 8's on a saloon, and they just fit between the outside dimensions of the car and the suspension strut, pretty sure it's 8's that Dan runs on his widearch, little more offset and they sit nicely in arches that are around 2 inches wider per side.

Feel free to prove me wrong, and it would look epic if you did, but 8" wide on a Nova is a tight squeeze to say the least!

_Jake
26-02-12, 02:48 PM
Been a while since i updated this  went to the first IMCC meet last night & saw a starlet glanza with some schmidts like mine on so i put mine on today to see what they look like properly..

+0.05mm pistons & E16SE big valve head. also got a 4.18 Crown wheel in a f10 i kept from the astra i broke which should go nice in a f13cr when i can find one :wtf:

http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/hh160/bodmin344/DSC01260.jpg

I lied, got bored and put them in today along with the grey carpets:
http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/hh160/bodmin344/DSC01269.jpg

Theyre ridiculously comftable but i havent wired them up as its only going to get warmer now lol After some boot & arch carpet the same shade grey as whats in the car (Out of a luxe, not the darker gte/sri grey) If anybodys got some? Next jobs door cards, got about 3 different pairs so i'll be doing some mix and match

.... Couldnt find a F13CR locally so im doing the next best thing.. Hybrid F10 :d
Basically im using the 5spd F10 i had from breaking the astra for the 1.3, Keeping the 4.18 diff & pinion and putting in a F13CR Cluster back in it. Painting it & New gaskets/seals as i go along obviously :)

http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/hh160/bodmin344/DSC01278.jpg
Stripped, everything out..

http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/hh160/bodmin344/DSC01281.jpg
Old cluster.. anyone after one?

http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/hh160/bodmin344/DSC01282.jpg
4.18 Diff :d

http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/hh160/bodmin344/DSC01279.jpg
Starting to clean the casing down, ridiculous amount of ****e came off the thing!

The other reason apart from not being able to source an F13CR for using the F10 is so i can use the smaller flywheel so it the engine can rev up a bit quicker, not that it would make a mountain of difference i guess? Update as soon as the casings painted & my CR Cluster arrives :thumb:

Been stripping down my 1.3 over the past few weekends. Turns out it locked up because of a snapped valve:

http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/hh160/bodmin344/DSC01297.jpg

Still havent found the other half of the rocker arm yet.. :tard:
http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/hh160/bodmin344/DSC01294.jpg
http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/hh160/bodmin344/DSC01295.jpg

Only other damage it did was damage the valve guide in the head & take a lil chunk out so ill put a new guide in and have the head welded & Keep it as a spare. Bore looks fine too so i think i got lucky with that.

Last thing to come out is the crank :)

http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/hh160/bodmin344/DSC01296.jpg

Then to clean it down, have it rebored, crank checked & balanced with rods, & rebuilt with the big valved head so i can work out the compression ratio. But before that, i think i should invest in an engine stand rather than a seirra 4x4 wheel lol

_Jake

Time for an update i think. Seeing as i have the vectra, this is no longer my daily and has been put in a barn at work to prevent further rotting lol have decided to keep it sensible and use it to get some track day experience, keeping it small block 8v.

how it stood before it went away:
http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/hh160/bodmin344/538882_10151184092228701_392196122_n.jpg

also been collecting a few bits for the engine etc got a manifold for the carbs and some spare rods to be deseamed/balanced/peened

block is also bare now
http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/hh160/bodmin344/2012-12-26165617.jpg

also got a saloon washer bottle for 99p lol

had a morning on the mk1 yesterday, got it down to the interior i'll be using on track, may take the headlining out but im not sure yet.
http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/hh160/bodmin344/2013-02-16155427_zps94fcaca6.jpg

the door cards arent staying and i plan to have the dash flocked, cannot stand that awful sandy/brown colour :tard:lol Will be getting a new steering wheel as the current ones a bit ****ed! and a pair of bucket seats as the current landrover one is only so i can drive it between the barn/workshop lol

also have ordered pistons from ze germans for the engine, still struggling to find a block though :( so i may just have to bore the 1.3 block.

Brand new Mahle 1.2 8v 78mm pistons from germany were delivered today. :d

Also bought a £50 1.4 corsa 8v engine off ebay which im waiting to be delivered, so i can strip it for the block and crank then burn the rest, meaning i can start building the new engine! :d

http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/hh160/bodmin344/2013-03-01141605_zps8827d2e4.jpg
shall be donating its block and maybe crank depending on condition.
Will get it stripped down over next week as i will have no time this weekend as im working :( and if i can get enough over time in i should be able to pay for the rebore to fit the 1.2 pistons and some standard rods as a trial fit!

Will be interesting to see how you get on with the engine. Why are you not using the 1.3 block?
I have a 13SB & 14NV block, I have found the 14NV block is slightly shorter so that would increase the CR even more than on a 13SB block. Have you checked the height of your block? What head are you using?

Im not using the 1.3 block as ive now got enough parts to repair it from when it dropped a valve so i didnt see any sense in using it to be honest! Im using a big valve E16 head which should help on the compression ratio front as it has bigger combustion chambers than the 1.3 head, although i dont know what its going to be c/r wise untill i build the bottom end then work it all out

Royston
02-03-13, 07:13 AM
Bigger combustion chamber means lower compression........less power

_Jake
02-03-13, 10:59 PM
means i wont have to bowl pistons though like i would with a 1.3 head... cant really say anything for certain untill ive done a dummy run though.

What engine are you putting in it?

I have a 1.4 nv with the 1.6 head on it. It does have less torque at low revs than the proper head but, over 3,500 rpm the bigger valves and ports allow far better flow and so it takes off (not quite like a jet plane lol) so it depends what you want it for? It's a great revvy set up.

http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/hh160/bodmin344/DSC01350_zps00c573e9.jpg

I have the boot spoiler and skirts but there not on atm. they will all get painted together along with the rear gte bumper thats already on there so they match eventually, unsure wether to keep the rub strips or not though!

Also got the crank out of the donor x14sz block so i will clean it down and grease the bores on sunday. then i'll take it to the machinist along with the pistons on friday!
Also decided against using my big valve E16 head as im going to use it on the engine that replaces this one, meaning i'll be using either a 1200 or 1300 one. Also the rfxs are growing on me again, but i think ill stay with sr steels for now.

A series of epic fails including writing off my road car in a little bump meant i never ended up with the seats, which is no big deal. Not really an update as such but with any luck ive sold the RFX's the nova sat on so here's how it sits right now:

http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/hh160/bodmin344/DSC01355_zps513af652.jpg (http://s255.photobucket.com/user/bodmin344/media/DSC01355_zps513af652.jpg.html)

Excuse the dirt and monumental arch gap lol

Engine block is at the machinists as we speak being rebored to suit the 1.2 pistons. Concentrating on getting the engine built, running, in & setup on a RR before i even bother with the rest of the car so ive been buying a few things for that (read as GTE engine for £62, was too cheap to say no lol) Hopefully should have a decent update in a week or two!

The cage is actually a roll center one and they come with out the ends profiled. Im doing it as a bolt in using saddle clamps from protection and performance, would deffinitely reccomend them to anyone, had a mishap with sizes and they happily helped out with postage and swapping to the size i need:thumb: Had to spend a little while to begin with chopping the main hoop legs to get them both the same length, and then the correct length in the car. havent even started on the front or rear stays yet :( another day tomorrow though & i have all of next week off work so i hope to get alot done :)

Bolted up my 256 brakes to some corsa hubs i have spare and put a wheel over it, initially it didnt fit over but after grinding the pointy bits off the carriers and putting 10mm of washers between the rim and hub they'll fit over. Being 5J i think ill get away with using 10mm spacers without arch rub!

had another play tonight. B pillar supports/tie in's/whatever you wanna call them.
Take some 50mm box, a 50mm holesaw & several drill bits and a few hours and you get this...

They bolt into where the seatbelts used to be, so i guess its technically a 6point bolt in cage as it stands lol

Interested to see how this turns out and the CR you get, keep us posted. Was it a 14NV block?
I checked the 14NV block and it seems to be shorter than the 13SB so thought it would have the pistons protruding out the top of the block at TDC or a crazy high CR.

X14SZ block, i was on the hunt for a cheap 14NV but the SZ came up for £50 so i used that. Not sure if there the same or not! i was expecting the piston to pertrude aswell. Looking at it theyre deffinitely going to have to be machined, thinking of having a bowl machined into them rather than going near the crown but thats something ill have to discuss with my machinist as i still need to work out c/r so i know how much that needs to be machined off.

suprising you had to bore it out for the 1200 heads...

Im guessing the regular 1400 has smaller sized heads, with a longer stroke right ? .. and your basically re-creating a long stroke 1.2 that will be a bit nutty right ? lol

interesting. good progess too. look forward to the end result :thumb:

that pretty much brings us to the beginning of this summer, i got kicked out of my workshop so i havent done a great deal. i plan on starting in business towards the end of this year so im prioritising investing in tools and sourcing a workshop over this now.

No racing in its current form. Id like to get it running and get some seat time in it and see how i like it, at the moment its looking like i'll finish and sell it to play with evo's with the view to enter time attack, but thats a ways a way yet...

Got my rear bumper and sideskirts in primer today, no pictures im afraid!

& regarding the engine and box comment, the reason im not giving anything away is because the whole reason i decided on small block turbo is that its never been done in the way im doing it & i do not wish to be imitated

Shame to come over so obnoxious it's a great thread and some real decent work has gone in to the car. I only asked out of interest pal not that I or anybody else is likely to copy the way your car is put together. As I said I'm building 1 myself at the moment, I don't intend massive power just a conversion that's useable and hopefully as reliable as possible.

Good luck with it mate.

Enjoyed the last couple of pages of this thread.

I noticed I asked about your xmember a few pages ago, I've since done mine and would recommend the extra bracing you were looking into doing (up the bottom of the chassis legs). Ideal time would have been when adding the strengthening plate to the inside of the legs). The OE one has bracing there don't forget.

I like your pedal cylinder assembly, do you plan to reverse the 'throw' of the clutch pedal since the current cable is pulled and attached at the top? Just a clevis half way down the clutch pedal below the pivot (although may be tricky to get the right clutch travel)?

i did put that bracing in mate just didnt take a photo! Im going for hydraulic clutch on this so im hoping getting the pedal travel wont be too hard, more concerned about the brake pedal travel! Should have some more pics to upload sunday, test fitting my wheels and tyres before it goes for paint and painting my rear bumper/sideskirts :)
