My GSI developed a starting problem last week and i come to start it this morning to go to work and it was turning over v.slowly! Anyway, smoke started to appear from under the bonnet, so i went to investigate and found that the wires which go from the air flow meter to the injectors have all melted together!!!

Has anyone had a similar problem like this in the past?

Any advice much appreciated.

Kev.

I had a similar problem inside my car. If you have had any alrams or new wiring put in the car check that out. as something may have shorted out.
check for new wiring that may have been done by a previous owner.

Had a new alarm fitted about 2 months back, but i have had no problems with that so far.......I think some wiring may have been dislodged and has shorted out on some metal.

Has anyone ever taken there dash out? Is it a pain in the arse?

You don't need necessarily to take the dash out. There are two main things that you need to try.

Check the ignition switch relay.

Check the chocolate box of the alarm to see if any of the wires show signs of burning. The best thing you can do is insulate those wires.
