i lost to a 106 rallye the other night!!! apparantly my manifold and downpipe were glowing red lol . Cant belive i got beaten by a 1.6 8v french turd!!!!
what you got??

i ave the car in my pic......c20xe in a reg poverty spec shell lol. yeah i know they are quick but wasnt expecting that, especially when i can normally play with type r civics and beat a mi16 205. Something deffo not right with my car i think. time for her to come offf the road.....r1 carbs are sittin there i just need a manifold and dizzy setup if anyone can help?? I want a set of cams and a lightweight flywheel too if anyone knows where i sholud be lookin or what type of cams would suit best?
You havent beat an Mi16 205 and you certainly havent beat a Civic Type R in a standard Xe Nova.
The 106 could have had a Gti engine in
106 that we have in at work atm is due for about 180-190bhp (It's currently 178) and they can't weigh much more than a nova.

wrong lol.... one of my mates owns the 205 i beat.....best out of three an i just had it every time and again another mate owns the type r and that was even...neither of us could pull past. And the 106 is another mats car lol......its a phase 2 with 38k on the clock, still an 8 valve but with a 4 branch and lightened fly etc and a silly quick little car it seems!! lol .

106's are fast little cars, the GTi's are unreal fast, and ill second Andy on the type-R comment as my old xe nova would only stick with my mates through first gear, till it hit vtec and then it was gone!
If youve genuinely beaten your mates type-R and Mi16 205 then your mates simply cannot drive!
In a bike carbed Xe at a proper dragstrip me and a friend were going up against 106gti's,205 mi16's and CTR's all day and couldnt beat most of them.There wasnt much in it at all but a standard Xe-nah.
Something doesn't add up here, can beat a mi16 205 and can keep up with a Civic type r but cant beat a 1.6 8v 106?
A mate of mine had a 106 rallye too which apparently had a cam of some sort, had some kind of aftermarket exhaust system and head work allegedly, it would get to 110 in no time at all and would make it to 130 but that was about it, something must be wrong with your car if your mates only has a lightened flywheel and an exhaust manifold and still beats a 2.0 with more BHP and torque.

Phase 1 is 1.3 and phase 2 is 1.6

I would be disappointed if I got beaten by a 106/Saxo specially if its an 8v! (unless it turbo'd)
I've had a VTS and been in a cammed Saxo with 153bhp and both slow compared to XE Nova
Also had a race with my mates EP3, Nova was faster but not by a huge amount
Can't comment on 205s cos never driven or been in one

Im sorry mate but i have a mate with a mi16 205 and its unreal, completely standard mi16 engine just thrown in but is quick, if you got beat by a 106 but you beat a mi a bit ago maybe your engines fallen out or something because something isnt right there.

i take it this was on a 1/4mile or track? as on the road it dont mean **** all, ive had plays with a 106gti in my old xe nova on the road and it kept with me round the twistys and i left it standing on the straight so im no matter what the 1.6 8v all 90-100bhp should never touch a xe nova, and to the type r comment i had a play with my mate when i was in my belmont estate xe and he kept with me in 1st and 2nd but i pulled away in 3rd. You obviously cant drive mate lol

Are you sure they werent 1.1's as a mate of mine had an Xsi which was a 1400 and it properly flew, and i know of two local lads with GTi's and theyre stunningly fast and will run rings round any nova in their standard guise!
A 120bhp 106 is never going to beat a 150bhp XE nova
But that 120 bhp GTi is standard, youve got to swap the engine, the brakes, the suspension, the exhaust, the wheels/tyres to give the nova any chance of beating the standard 106, and no xe is going to be anywhere near 150bhp these days without a rebuild so again my point stands, by the same reckoning you could rebuild an Mi lump, swap out the brakes and suspension and all the above listed and the 106 will rinse the nova all day long, its not all about power, there is power to weight, the fact the 106 is a factory car designed to handle with the weight and power it has, its not some back yard cobbled together rot box with all the aerodynamics of a block of flats!
The standard suspension components on a 106 are utter crap tho, im my experience the only thing there designed to do is fall to bits lol

106gtis and vts's are only quick upto 130 after that there useless. Unfortunately felixstowe is filled with them so they **** all over my 1.2 lmao, Allthough there is a LET'd van in ipswich that ive personally watched **** all over an impreza but that was probably because the bird driving the impreza weighed about 20tons |: The only other nova in felixstowe is a 1.3sr which will keep up with a vtr, thats about it though, so i highly doubt you beat and MI16/civic type r even in a xe.

going back to the start of this thread my xe nova witch only had a straight threw exhaust would leave a standerd 106 8v or gti for fun when i had it id keep with standerd civic type r's all day but the mi16 pug would of p****d all over me at pvs show mine was running 14.4 if u ask me it depends on how good your engine is as standerd as we all knw if u get a redtop witch has been ragged then its not gunna be very fast at all but a good 1 then it will be fast and demolish civics thanks

I smoked an MR2 turbo and 150 CDTI Vectra among other things with a 130 BHP @ 4psi 200K+ mile Volvo redblock (<-- actual term).
I am DK though.

gotta admit the type r would have me but where all this happened is about the driver too not just a straight line, as for the mi16 that was fair and square on the same private land lol......its dying now tho....fly before they die!! lol . i bought the car with the lump in so not exactly sure how stndard it is but it deffo needs a rebuild and cams bike carbs etc. i have the carbs but need dizzy setup and manifold.

The 106 isn't just your average track car either, its got thousands spent on it, race spec engine, wide track shell, fiberglass everything etc

They just dont seem fit for the abuse though ;).

All depends on the car IMO.... Some are just fitter than others. My Gsi filled the clock one night before it shat itself. But you have to wonder how accurate the speedos are on these things. And I was in my mates old 106 gti at an indicated 140- decat and a magnex was all that done to it.

I remember when i had my old GSi with a standard 20XE in it i went along side my mate on his CBR 600
He clocked us doing 156mph! BUT! there is no way in hell we were both doing that, so not only cars speedo's over read! even his digi bike one was..
After this i decided to try figure out the actual speed we (i) was doing,
So... A standard 20XE with a standard F20 on standard final drive using 16" wheels on a 195x45 tyre would have an over rolling radius MAX speed of 147mph IF your lucky...
So if any one knows the overall radius of the wheel/tyre on the saxo/106's and there gear box FD's then you can work out there total max..
127 on a sat nav Scott. I got the same speed from 2 different but totally standard ones (106 GTi) on the same stretch of motorunway.

when will these kids realise that when most people in a decent car get 'raced' by a nova, they simply slow down & let the nova 'win' so that they don't get called as a witness to the accident..
keep the racing to the track anyway, it aint like all the boasters of speed here are racing on a track imo.
