steering lock

I just realised my steering lock doesn't engage when the key is out. I changed the ignition barrel a while ago because my one broke, I took it out and had a look at it today but I can't see anything missing. What i did notice is the barrel doesnt slide all the way in, there is a 3mm gap left, is that normal?

What should I be looking for to get the steering lock to come on? Is there a danger the lock will come on randomly when im driving? :mad:

Well it seems the end of the barrel where the key went in wasn't popping out fully, maybe because the igniton switch was catching on it, I dont know but its working again now.
