Hi guys Just wondering if anyone has got decent power from either 1.3 or 1.4 8v engines? If so what sort of specs are they, cheers

What do you consider decent power there are loads with over 100hp knocking about

anything over standard realy mate,100+ bhp would be ideal, just wantin to see which is better to tune and what sort of specs/setups people are runnin, cheers

i had a 1.2 head with bronze valve guides double valve springs a kent cam 282's i believe a 32/36 twin choke webber carb lightened and balanced fly wheel a 1.3sr bottom end with a f13cr and that proper flew i used to be well on par with my mates evo through the bendys and spanked him off the line everytime and a mate of mine had a big valve head on his with almost the same spec and that was in a differnt leauge!!!!!!!!

at what point did you believe that a 1.3 nova with a 1.2 head (which is identical by the way) and a lumpy cam, with a weber replacement would actually beat an evo???

Fairy land clearly lol i once beat a bmw of the line (it was wet and he was spinning...my car doesnt have enough power to put down to spin so i was off) soon caught up though...i see that as a win

what engine was your nova? in the wet mine would spin quite easily, due to bad camber set up

well my 1.2 nova beat a 2.0 escort cos im runnin a 4 speed box and dat means it is like close ratio and i got my head skimmed like 5mm so i run mega compression ratio init

Well there is the 1.4 tuning guide in my sig link, and most of the 'better' option advice in there can be applied to the 1.3 too.

but the highlights would be......
1.4 or 1.6 mpi head with a light skim to adjust the compression ratio as needed.
the 8V mpi T40 intake manifold
T40 carbs (weber or delllllllortoe), or if you are a bender then bike carbs :p
Kent AST2 or Piper BP300 cam
Ashley 4 branch exhaust manifold (or a BTB one if you can find it)
Setup by someone who knows what a carb is (preferably an old git)

SCORE!! Over 100bhp in either guise and if you are lucky then you will be knocking on 120bhp.

Is the 1200 cylinder head not a improvement over The std 1400sr head ??

Smaller chamber size, but the valves are the same size, so it gives higher cr

I'm running 120BHP in my Nova Sport 1.3 Bill Blydenstein Engine and head with twin 40's rebuilt engine B head, kent Cam, I have a rr graph to prove as well from two different rr's.

D7ake what has been done to your head and bottom end?

Stuart is the 1600 head a straight fit on to a 1300/1400 block? And what pistons and rods are used? Sorry for the questions

take head off, replace with 1.6 head..... done, no messing with the bottom end

I really want to build a 1400 engine nova at some point for back road blasts, that's why I love threads like this so don't fell sorry for asking questions.mate I'm sure Stuart and others with similar knowledge won't mind sharing it.with.you one little bit after all this is a club

So I would use the 1600 distributor and cam aswell? Which out the 1300 or 1400 would be a better bottom end to use? Cheers

Stuart

you want to be using the 1400 dizzy/coil/module setup regardless of the bottom end and head etc mix.

Bill Blydenstein Magic;)

My Sport is 102HP 1.3 with a worked head, piper 285 cam, forties..............I feel robbedlol

and is no quicker down the strip, with the piper 285 cam over the std SR cam:eek: (which was 92HP), as there is no grip at York:roll:

Would like to know what the SR is putting out as I built the engine, currently big valve head, balanced 0.5mm overbore, forties, Holbay 270 cam.

I am hoping to convert her to Irmscher Fuel Injection over the winter (and why it has the Holbay 270 cam)

Will get her set up after that:d

as for evo comment...im running about 370/380bhp in my 6...come for a play sometime haha

Fully rebuilt balanced rods, new pistons, ARP Rod Bolts, 4 branch manifold, the head is ported and polished but standard valve sizes but uprated lifters. My carbs have also been rejetted, I think from memory this gave me a few extra horses. I also have an upgraded gearbox.

1.4 c14se, bored to 1440cc with mahl forged pistons, lightened and balanced, oversized valves, Kent nvo62 cam, weber twin 40s, 130bhp at flywheel. Matched to a quaife box the old girl goes really well. Loose 1/4 of the power leaves me with about 100bhp at the wheels. Not too bad.

lose 30bhp? quite alot lost of quiafe box matey!.
