Over the Winter I'm going to get my Nova re-painted, and I want all of the old paint stripped off it so we can start from scratch, and keep the weight down, and the finish quality up.

I've been warned off getting the car acid stripped.

Apparently blasting it with soda is one of the best methods?

Expert opinion welcome, I know almost nothing about the subject.

A friend of mine has shotblasting equipment, can you just bung the soda in there and use that, or does it need different machinery?

Thanks.

Different machine, sandblasting would be worth looking at, it won't leave a perfect finish, but it will remove about 2-3thou of metal over the whole car lol

Ive never been when my mate gets his customers shells done so couldnt comment on what equip BUT its infinetly better cost wise then dipping. Only downside is the crystals obviously dont penetrate into the cavaties like a liquid would/does.

BUT the overall out come is exactly the same. Just the shell ends up covered in white powder, which is no biggie for a quick hover & panel wipe.

Hovering panel wipes, bet they aren't cheap.

Thanks, I'll give them a ring tomorrow and find out the costs.

I use paint strip quiet regularly and they are a good bunch of lads, the quality of the stripping is far better than any blasting I have ever used, and they said a Nova would be about £550, working on the avarage mini being £450 and a camper being £850

Thanks Graeme, hopefully as my Nova hardly has very little metal left, it will be even cheaper than that...........

i did acid stripping for 7 years, and it is the ONLY way of getting in all the hard to get places, aslong as the company cleans all the acid out with water to nutrolize the acid you will never have any problems.
