How hard is it to drop a 8v GTE/GSI 1600cc engine into a 1200cc engine bay? Are the mounts in the same place?
The 1.2 is a carb version, and the GTE/GSI is fuel injection with a ecu, do I need the full loom from the GTE or can I intergrate the wires from the ecu etc and leave the rest alone?
Cheers

they will drop straight in on standerd mounts you will need a injection tank and fuel lines the loom can be wired in easy enough dude just got the following
thick red/blue - fue pump
thick red- constant live
thin black - ignition live
green - rev counter
im sure theres another but i forgot sorry

Thanks for the advice mate.
Just a few more questions. Do I need a GTE/GSI gearbox?, I have a 5 speed on my 1.2cc. Which engine would be best to go for, the GTE OR GSI, or is'nt there much difference?
Do these engines come as a 16v as well as a 8v? What about the drive shaft's do I need these?
Cheers
Mike
you need to have an F13 box. the f10's bellhousing is too small. the driveshafts are the same on 1.6 1.5d 1.4 1.3 1.2 & 1.0 novas
the 16v version is the baby xe from the astra mk3/corsa b/vectra, it isn't too hard to fit. same mounts etc., apart from sorting out the right immobiliser key etc.

Hi Mowgli, thanks for your advice. Sorry mate I do not want to sound thick again, but what immobiliser key are you talking about?
Cheers
Mike
the majority of 1.6 xe 16v engines have to have the ignition key & the immobiliser sensor stuff and it is necessary, or the ecu doesn't power up, people get the key & tape it to the sender & then hide it under the dash somewhere.

I'm with you now:)

you DONT NEED an "injection tank",you can use your tank with an external pump
but just don't go round right hand bends at speed with less than 1/2 a tank in..it sucks air up the pipe.. mine did.
1/4 of a tank in my xe lol
