^awesome, 702's were better mind, infared 2 player snake FTW!

My first phone was a Nokia 702, infrared was a great gimmick, a forerunner to Bluetooth.

It was indestructable aswell, I dropped a jar full of thinners on it which started to melt it and in a panic I decided that dunking it in the bucket of water I had beed using for wet & dry would be a good idea. It still worked although you could not see a great deal on the screen that had melted. It was up for renewal so I replaced it and gave it to a mate that needed a phone and it kept going for another 18 months before he replaced it lol

6310i keeps coming up time and time and time again as being the best 'old school' phone :) I tried to find a BINB one to use recently but alas they are all refurbs and all about £50+ :( then again that would have been super cheap mobile phoning with a sim only deal lol. Battery used to last for 14 days of hard use, oh those were the days.

My first phone was some dodgy analogue handset with NO display, just 5 LED's to let you know what it was doing lol. Then had some wreck of a phone and then began the Nokia fun of a 3210, 6310, then some colour 3xxx series thing with the square pad. Then a 9310i, a K500i (terrible POS!!!) and onto smart phones with a Samsung i600 and HTC diamond (pile o gash which has destroyed HTC handsets for ever for me) and finally a BB which is just happy days like the old nokias (but lame battery life lol)

Absolutely legendary phone. My mate had one back in about 1997, we dropped it in the sea off Newquay - fished it out, pegged it out on the washing line over night and it was fine the next day lol

This was one of my favourite quirky phones though, Bosch 509e. I remember changing the welcome message so it said "WELCOME TO ... ORANGE JACK" lol

Does anyone actually own a Nokia now though? I think from the 402 through til about the N85/N95 they pretty much dominated the market but now I don't really know anyone that uses one.

we all do ;) well on a pedantic/royalty note. I think 99.9% of phone sold on the planet have some nokia IP in them and license is paid to them, hence them not going bust in the smartphone revolution lol.

Then again nearly all smart phones with push email pay RIM royalties, and apple get loads from winmo sales etc too

How are you finding the battery life and signal strength/call quality in the 9900? (had any previous BB's to this? )

I had a 9700 previous to this. I've not had a single problem with this phone. I'm a pretty heavy user, 500+ BBMs daily, FB always open, 4-5 tabs open, I use 60-70% of the battery during the day, I always charge it overnight. Never had any signal issues either.

I do believe the battery life will be improved with software updates, but it has a smaller capacity battery than the 9700, plus a tough screen and more powerful hardware, you can't have it all! The batter would last 2-3 days if I wasn't constantly on it I'm sure.

perfect! :) Me and the Mrs have 9700's and the 9900 just looks the logical step but heard iffy reviews about it. Sounds like you are a 'power user' lol so will do us the 2-3 days we expect.

It's such a nice upgrade from the 9700. As soon as I got it, my 9700 all of a sudden looked so very dated. The larger keyboard is lovely to use, and the touch screen makes web browsing and use of the menus so much nicer.

Here's a comparison of the two, excuse the state of the 9700 it's been sitting in a draw for a few weeks now lol

mine had no screen, the best part was the flip down mic like Capitan Scarlett lol

http://pictures.todocoleccion.net/tc/2009/05/11/13274784.jpg

that was back in the old analogue days and when O2 didnt exist, trying to rack my brain for what they were called back then...

EDIT... BT CELLNET

lol, just found Sonys sales pitch for it

The familiar button spacing of a conventional telephone and similarly easy to hold, but in a fresh design. Introducing a unique, flip-down mic in this model enabled users to keep the earpiece comfortably close to their ear while talking. The earpiece itself has a soft, round shape designed to fit gently against one's ear. For better usability, common buttons such as keys for dialing are arranged on the front, with other buttons on the side.

my first motorola had the full size credit card sim... it was truly crap on the orange network. my brother was trying to get hold of me (i work for him) and kept leaving more irate messages.. but i never got them where i was working, so he sent his mrs round, she took my phone straight to the shop. the man stuck the sim into a display phone & turned it on....and found some messages, turned the loudspeaker on and this angry voice shouted 'michael, its me, if you don't start answering that f%£$ing phone i'm coming round there to shove it up your......' the man turned it off, and she left the shop blushing.....so we got a vodaphone instead..
