My first phone was a Nokia 702, infrared was a great gimmick, a forerunner to Bluetooth.
It was indestructable aswell, I dropped a jar full of thinners on it which started to melt it and in a panic I decided that dunking it in the bucket of water I had beed using for wet & dry would be a good idea. It still worked although you could not see a great deal on the screen that had melted. It was up for renewal so I replaced it and gave it to a mate that needed a phone and it kept going for another 18 months before he replaced it lol
Philips Savvy lol followed by my unbreakable 3310 :d
mine was a nokia ringo when i was 15 lol just as payg was coming out , cost me £100 lol

I had a nk402 as my first phone, i guess most up us were on orange as the 402 and 702 were orange's 'names' for the 5110 and the 6110, then i had a 3210 followed by an awesome 7110, i had one of those on contract with 'bt cellnet' :d
Wows i had one of those panasonic's on 'one2one' lol
lol who do you want a "one2one" with haha
Damnit, im gonna go find the old adverts on youchoob now lol
Mine was a Philips something, had a aerial which i swapped for a cool as fook flashing one.
Also had 2 of the sony ericcssons in Riggys pic
Them were the days lol, and they never crashed and wipe everything off the phone  lol
I had a Nokia 5110:

Then they started getting crap so jumped ship. Then had...
HTC Vario II
HTC Compact
Blackberry Bold
Blackberry Torch
Might have missed a few.
Crazily I still have all of my phones apart from the 702 & 6310i.
The 6310i was the best of the old school phones IMO

6310i keeps coming up time and time and time again as being the best 'old school' phone :) I tried to find a BINB one to use recently but alas they are all refurbs and all about £50+ :( then again that would have been super cheap mobile phoning with a sim only deal lol. Battery used to last for 14 days of hard use, oh those were the days.
My first phone was some dodgy analogue handset with NO display, just 5 LED's to let you know what it was doing lol. Then had some wreck of a phone and then began the Nokia fun of a 3210, 6310, then some colour 3xxx series thing with the square pad. Then a 9310i, a K500i (terrible POS!!!) and onto smart phones with a Samsung i600 and HTC diamond (pile o gash which has destroyed HTC handsets for ever for me) and finally a BB which is just happy days like the old nokias (but lame battery life lol)

Just been out with Carrie for a meal and i was thinking about this thread as we were talking about it, and does anyone els remember how cool you were if you changed your "orange/vodafone" screen saver name to a custom one for about 25p! or like on my 3210 you had to type your own ring tones in like so..#
2-2-2-4 . 4-4-5-3- . 4-5-4-6-3 2-2-2 2-3-2-3- lol kids these day really would be like WTF lol lol
See i can see my first one, but i have no clue who made it. Had a aerial like the top of a highlighter pen..lol
Proper one was the Nokia 3210, that phone was the best ever.

Absolutely legendary phone. My mate had one back in about 1997, we dropped it in the sea off Newquay - fished it out, pegged it out on the washing line over night and it was fine the next day lol
This was one of my favourite quirky phones though, Bosch 509e. I remember changing the welcome message so it said "WELCOME TO ... ORANGE JACK" lol
http://www.cntr.salford.ac.uk/comms/resources/artefacts/mobile_phones/GSM/Bosch_509e.JPG
Does anyone actually own a Nokia now though? I think from the 402 through til about the N85/N95 they pretty much dominated the market but now I don't really know anyone that uses one.

we all do ;) well on a pedantic/royalty note. I think 99.9% of phone sold on the planet have some nokia IP in them and license is paid to them, hence them not going bust in the smartphone revolution lol.
Then again nearly all smart phones with push email pay RIM royalties, and apple get loads from winmo sales etc too

How are you finding the battery life and signal strength/call quality in the 9900? (had any previous BB's to this? )

I had a 9700 previous to this. I've not had a single problem with this phone. I'm a pretty heavy user, 500+ BBMs daily, FB always open, 4-5 tabs open, I use 60-70% of the battery during the day, I always charge it overnight. Never had any signal issues either.
I do believe the battery life will be improved with software updates, but it has a smaller capacity battery than the 9700, plus a tough screen and more powerful hardware, you can't have it all! The batter would last 2-3 days if I wasn't constantly on it I'm sure.

perfect! :) Me and the Mrs have 9700's and the 9900 just looks the logical step but heard iffy reviews about it. Sounds like you are a 'power user' lol so will do us the 2-3 days we expect.

It's such a nice upgrade from the 9700. As soon as I got it, my 9700 all of a sudden looked so very dated. The larger keyboard is lovely to use, and the touch screen makes web browsing and use of the menus so much nicer.
Here's a comparison of the two, excuse the state of the 9700 it's been sitting in a draw for a few weeks now lol

See as said most of us had Nokia's all the time, they lead the way until the N95, thats the last one i had, as Samsung and others took over with huge steps in technology and reliability etc.. they must be back to making tyres by now lol lol

mine had no screen, the best part was the flip down mic like Capitan Scarlett lol
http://pictures.todocoleccion.net/tc/2009/05/11/13274784.jpg
that was back in the old analogue days and when O2 didnt exist, trying to rack my brain for what they were called back then...
EDIT... BT CELLNET
lol, just found Sonys sales pitch for it
The familiar button spacing of a conventional telephone and similarly easy to hold, but in a fresh design. Introducing a unique, flip-down mic in this model enabled users to keep the earpiece comfortably close to their ear while talking. The earpiece itself has a soft, round shape designed to fit gently against one's ear. For better usability, common buttons such as keys for dialing are arranged on the front, with other buttons on the side.
My first was a 3310, followed by 2 more when I lost them, then some random samsungs, first proper phone was a Sony Ericsson W800I, then a W880i then a W995, now i've got a Nokia N8. I still miss my sony ericsson's though :( best phones ever
Does anyone actually own a Nokia now though? I think from the 402 through til about the N85/N95 they pretty much dominated the market but now I don't really know anyone that uses one.
I've got an N8 at the moment, pretty good smart phone, and a 12mp camera which is awesome :)

Same here. No light up aerial for me though! Just a choice of coloured O rings. Yellow FTW.
I remember when it said 'SMS service unavailable at present' as they hadn't launched it. Oooh what will it be?! Etc. lol
I used to spend **** loads on phones :/ The Savvy was replaced by a 5110, then an 82210 iirc (<--- best phone ev0r1) GR8 4 DROPPIN DOWN SLEEVE WHEN USIN FOR CALLS WHILST DRIVIN

I've still got my CMD Z1-Plus lol (the replacement). You win for lack of tech though! Mine could record memo's, active flip down mic, jog dial (win) and the mother fcuker even had an OSTRICH walk across the screen on start up/shut down.

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3315/3644997318_0b1249379b.jpg
Motorola M760 with pull up ariel
Sim card slid in from the bottom (ooh er), got it in '97 when one2one had that free weekends and evening calls tariff.
my first motorola had the full size credit card sim... it was truly crap on the orange network. my brother was trying to get hold of me (i work for him) and kept leaving more irate messages.. but i never got them where i was working, so he sent his mrs round, she took my phone straight to the shop. the man stuck the sim into a display phone & turned it on....and found some messages, turned the loudspeaker on and this angry voice shouted 'michael, its me, if you don't start answering that f%£$ing phone i'm coming round there to shove it up your......' the man turned it off, and she left the shop blushing.....so we got a vodaphone instead..
