View Full Version : Parental control with cars? What do you think?
A car that can have parental control of speeds and radio volume

Bollocks to what Brake says, the most dangerous drivers on the road are old people that do between 20-40 MPH EVERYWHERE which causes younger, more capable/aware drivers to speed up and overtake them.
Also, Vauxhall drivers piss me off regularly, damn you all

Oh yes,ive deffo being called that one afew times.Plus afew others. I like to think i just say it like it is. I bet im right though,if you looked into the personal history of every brake member you`d find alot like that.Thats the only reason i can think of why you`d spend your days trying to make every car in the land do 25mph max, everywhere. The country would grind to a halt if we listened to these retards.
Personally if some prick ran out into the road and made me run them down,id be sueing the family for MY mental trauma.
lower speed limits wont stop people dying, end of!

Brake always take the moral high ground on radio debates..... And the previous postee had it right.... They are feeling bad cos their child got flattened, which is every parents nightmare, along with their daughter bringing baxter home.....
This country has reached its minimum in terms of road deaths, there will always be some idiot running out of talent... When i was just starting, the rich kids had powerful cars & usually did all the crashing, the rest of us had to make do with slow stuff... These days, they all seem to have fast cars... But thankfully fuel is so costly that they just hang round in carparks with them & then drive slowly to mcdonalds.....as for parental control....i will simply have a locked box with keys in. And i will happily modify any stereos in cars that my kids get.

edit for the WORST nightmare lol
The technology is already available in the US on all new Ford Focus models and will come to Europe in 2012 on the new Ford Fiesta.
who the hell buys a BRAND NEW car for a first car??
who the hell buys a BRAND NEW car for a first car??
I've met a few people with a new car for their first, mostly women though as (no disrespect to the Nova/old car owning women) all of them said they cant drive a car without power steering as they're too weak, personally I think its something to do with they think newer cars are faster/better (i kinda agree with the better bit) as one of my workmates will ask me at least once a week if I still have a Nova and why I got it, why didn't I buy something new instead of sinking £1000+ on an old car, I should sell it and buy something new (I'm trying FFS lol). They'll never understand.
I let one of my female friends drive my fiesta as she was learning but cant afford lessons at the moment and that proved women are kinda on the weak side when it comes to turning the wheel to pull off, mind she is 5ft 1 a size 8-10 and more interested in her looks than being strong.
ok ill rephrase that....who would buy a ford :p

Favor for a favor wwmnw wink wink nudge nudge huh huh huh nudge nudge wink wink
lets look at the mindset of the female learner, just for a moment, it should be enough....
1. you really don't need the seat that far forward.... its only cos the pervy instructor wants to look at your knockers during the lesson....
2. don't just learn at a school that has the same car as your dad is going to buy for you..... you should try to drive different cars.
3. reverse parking really isn't a big deal
4. neither is using mirrors for something other than makeup application
5. if three people have just driven larger cars through a gap, your little tiny car will fit
ok ill rephrase that....who would buy a ford :p
Cool people, Ford > Vauxhall.

Lol no, shes one of my best friends.
Although I've seen more than I should for a friend, but no, friends and nothing more, plus her fella has won the UK strongman a couple of times and come in the top few numerous times, along with north east strong man so I don't fancy messing with a 20 odd stone powerhouse lol

Only just though I reckon, I once lifted the back end of a Nova up by myself so he cant be much stronger than me lol

And a jack at the back
when i scrapped a shell, i left the glass & rear beam (& wheels) on, shoved 2 bars into the front bumper holes & wheeled it out onto the road, then took a run up, and got it up the ramp onto the trailer....ok it was fecking heavy but i had no assistants.
I think it's quite a good idea, until said child borrows your keys lol

I took my dads Audi 80 when I was thirteen, I borrowed it about 10 times, I even went to safeways to get my mums shopping. After a couple of goes I just got braver and eventually mounted the kerb and damaged the engine. All the fancy controls and speed limiting would have been useless, I'd have still took it because parents under estimate kids. It would be better if you went over 35mph that you dads voice came over the speakers threatening to beat the crap out of you!
Our Jack as in a Razorjack lol
Nah rumour has it the most he can lift is a mug of tea to his lips lol

More than half of the parents surveyed by Ford said they worry that their teenagers are driving recklessly, talking on mobile phones or texting, or are otherwise distracted.
Yeah because a speed/volume limiter will stop them from texting or being distracted by other things (usually tits on the pavement).
Anyways, you can bet after 1 or 2 years being limited to 65, the first thing they do when they get their own/unrestricted car is fill it with 8 of their best burberry clad mates, batter it up to 100mph and promptly fall off the road as they have no idea what a car does at that speed lol

Would have posted a pic of her Jack but her facebook keeps vanishing and she swears she doesn't delete it, meh lol

Exactly, a good way to learn car control is to lose control (obviously not at high speed and risking lives) but like most people do, wet/icy empty car parks, I had loads of fun with my old Nova "drifting" found a snowy/icy car park and learned some car control (albeit at about 10-20 mph) and it was all going well til I slid into a curb lol
Edit: Thinking about it, I cant wait to do it again in teh fiesta, don't mind killing that as its getting scrapped in January.
Trouble is woowoomanawoo, car enthusiasts and average joe have totally different driving experiences/knowledge, first time my nova stepped out on me I steered into, average person reaction is to steer away from OMG TROUBLE and spin it. This is why people don't mind modern cars with 0 steering, accelerator, brake or clutch feel! :p
Thats the other thing, having an old crate as a first car allows you to feel every little bump and shake and wobble so you know what reactions you get from the car. New cars are so detatched, even driving Hayley's colt is bad enough.
And here was me looking forward to driving my mams 08 Micra for the next few days while shes away. Anything's better than that ******* fiesta of mine.
I drove an RX8 recently, and from pulling away for the first time I fell in love with the engine. Then I arrived at a corner and pressed the brakes. My joy was short lived. Braking and steering made me do this face -

That engine in that car is like seeing the girl you've always fancied, out with that d***head guy who has more money than you even though you work 3 jobs to get by. You know you're better than him, hell - even she knows it - but they've been together now for too long and she's comfortable. You know you could offer her so much more but she is in a slightly numb relationship and you need to find love elsewhere.
For original thread topic, I also made the above face.
Mid corner braking FTW!!!!! cant beat a bit of trail braking to re or unsettle a car :)
Its ok, modern cars have enough airbags they'll just bounce round corners lol
Now to replace the steering wheel with a playstation controller and on-windscreen NOZZZ levels and we're ready for the current early-teenager generation to start driving lol
all young drivers should be made to drive a mk1 picasso. this has 2 benefits, 1. they are so crap to drive that it will put most of them off....2. if they crash them then thats one less picasso on the road, so its a win win situation.
all near accidents ive had have been from 50+ drivers. my mums bloke is 60 and boasts off a clean lisence, and not too long ago got done for speeding, and has fallen asleep at the wheel so many times bouncing off things i dont get how hes still alive.. Only last night some one of this age bracket pulled out on me when driving the vitara... i then contined with the road rage to sit on his ass with my left foot on the break (yes a girl who can left foot break get in!) and full beam on..knowing full dam well that my headlights were beaming in to his eyes as thats all i could see in the mirror.... His epic fail. i contine to sail past him on a round about with ****er sign in hand...
MY PET HATE...but i tell u this. when i had an 07 plate fiesta no one ever did this...strange that, vitara is an s reg.. in the nova this was for ever happening.
Bain of my life being im on the road so much it just seems to be this is the only types on the road when i am... Kids dont work so their out when im in work.. ide rather be on a road with a bunch of chavs, than a road full of old people
episode of south park comes to mind!
not sure if this has been said yet but your just going to get these drivers that have mam and dad to buy their new car, sitting with there foot on the limiter to blow the head so they can have a different one. hahaha
lass in i nah got a nice and tidy newish punto for her first car and has openly admitted that she blew the head on it on purpose because she wants a newer fiesta lol
obv didnt take much to blow it like lol
Re the age thing. It isn't an age thing. Its down to the fact that some people are good drivers & you never notice them, and some are bad & you always notice them.
my mums bloke is 60 and boasts off a clean lisence, and not too long ago got done for speeding
Soooo is it clean or isn't it? lol
I was out the other night actually, just nipped out ahead of this Vitara which then came steaming right up behind me, the pillock even had their headlights on full beam. Couldn't see a fcuking thing ahead of me due to the glare from the dick's lights - probably didn't realise they were on full beam. They kept stuttering on the brakes too, so no doubt pissing off the people behind as well. Then they had the gall to squeeze past me on a roundabout and give ME a hand gesture - turns out it was some young girl! Bloody kids, no wonder they're always having accidents if they all drive like that.

It's not always the kids that like to drive behind you with their full beams on either... I've had a damned BMW X5 do it. Sat right behind me at a set of lights with his lights beaming right through my cabin. I couldn't see sh!t as his lights were reflecting off evry mirror I had! Lights went green, I pulled away, automoatically checked the rear view, got blinded again, and drifted across the next lane slightly. Turned out it was an undercover cop car, he pulled me over 5 minutes later thinking I was a drunk driver. He soon went away with a flea in his ear. I went nuts at him for putting his lights right through my cabin and blinding me. Luckily enough I also happened to be at work as well, and out on a delivery so he didn't even pull me out of the car haha
The other day, i took our little daf out for a delivery, i stopped & asked a local for directions, i was pulled in right to the kerb, leaving a good 10 foot gap. Some young woman in a tt couldn't get thru the gap & was going mad at me... She went even madder when i ignored her... Eventually she drove thru the tiny gap with about 3 ft to spare, still going on at me.
