I bought the car back in 2007

Being one of the first C20LET 2.0 Turbo Novas. It has a vast history, including a 1995 Max Power feature.

April 2007
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v514/elg4n/NovaTurboPink/14042007018.jpg

I did various maintenance work including a cracked gearbox mount, some wiring touch ups, a goodridge brake line that burst one me :s , and a tie bar that met the oil filter, then front mounted the intercooler lower down in the bumper mouth, and a rework to the old exhaust system.

In June i had the sound system re worked. Dont remember any real details. But with the Black Leather interior it looked a bit like this..

In July I had the Speedline Alessios Mirror Polished. May not be to everyones taste, but it was an attempt to make some changes to make it mine.

Summer of 2007 was the last time i drove the pink nova.

I started having faults with the alarm. Now under normal circumstances you would think this not to be a big deal. NOT the case with this car. Having a very old but very advanced Clifford alarm fitted proved to be a big problem. It had rain sensitive wipers, auto locking, remote starts, automatic headlamps, total closures, proximity sensors etc etc. You name it, this car had it. Unfortunately, the clifford main ECU gave up the ghost. The car was intermittent starting, not opening and locking as it should etc. I consulted the company who originally did the install who chased it up with clifford. but clifford couldnt supply any old repair parts or ecus for the system fitted. This left me one option to remove the alarm system. A simple task, but not when every wire was black and unlabelled.

At this point I tucked the car away in the lock up for another time...

Here it is with a later addition, my 1983 Nova..

On Christmas Eve i had a close call when i stacked my Honda S2000.

During my 1 year period of bed rest, I reluctantly sold some parts from the pink nova. The cav leather turbo interior, the polished speedlines, all sold to help cover bills at my house.

To this day it comes with huge regret that i sold that interior, the GSi rear bench had been re covered with the original Cav turbo leather trim, and the door cards were custom trimmed with nice speaker pods.

I love this car, what are the future plans for it then ?

elgan

After recovering and left with the pink nova needing a full rewire, and my red nova with a spun bearing, I decided to cobble the red one together to make a trip to PV. I used the Turbo engine from the pink nova and had my omex 600 modified to run this.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v514/elg4n/NovaGLF2008/ABCD0011.jpg

If anyone has a picture of the red car from that PV show (2008 i think), feel free to add.

Anyway, to this day the turbo engine remains in the red nova, all be it with a big turbo, some new internals, an f28 box etc etc.

In 2010 I started a restoration effort on the pink Nova.

Without any running gear, the whole wiring loom removed and various panels it looked like this

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v514/elg4n/novaglf2010/ABCD0001.jpg

I spent some time on the engine bay, any repairs done, some welding to the chassis legs to strengthen, then followed by hours of labour to smooth the engine bay out.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v514/elg4n/NovaTurboPink/ABCD0018-1.jpg

To get the best effect from the pink paint, i painted the bay first with a glacier white base

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v514/elg4n/NovaTurboPink/2010%20Restore/IMG00094-20100608-2055.jpg

Then some laquer
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v514/elg4n/NovaTurboPink/2010%20Restore/IMG00100-20100609-1917.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v514/elg4n/NovaTurboPink/2010%20Restore/IMG00097-20100608-2301.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v514/elg4n/NovaTurboPink/2010%20Restore/IMG00098-20100608-2302.jpg

I was very pleased with the finished result, as before this id never painted a metallic/pearlescent finish, bust base solids.

I cannot find many pictures of the engine fitting.

I have a 20XE which ive freshened up and painted, mated to an F20 gearbox with a Quaife diff, a BTB Manifold and stainless system.
It is now wired, and starts and runs

De Ja vu, I'm sure I have seen this build somewhere else before ?

Cool piece of history, I could not drive round in a Pink car though lol

elgan
26-09-11, 11:53 PM
Once the engine was running and i was satisfied with the wiring, I began to reconstruct the interior..

Dash in..

Seats etc..
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v514/elg4n/959c312f.jpg

Now when i scrapped the Silk Violet Nova above i stripped it to the bare bones! Between the pink Nova and the Silk Violet i should have had 2 of everything.
BUT I have some parts i cannot get my hands on
I need a Time clock, Lower steering column shroud, black glove box as the door on mine is broken, drivers side air duct pipe from heater matrix across.
I probably have these parts stashed somewhere ive forgotten, but if anyone has anything in the South Wales area, kindly let me know

And the most important part i need is a PASSENGER SIDE MK2 HATCH WING, MUST BE GM.

PLANS:
Mainly to finish assembly of the car using parts I have. I have choice of a standard GSi front bumper, or to Zafira slat grill the cut pink bumper, Im in 2 minds whether to remove the Monterey vent. The Zender rear spoiler will be removed, and the paint will be freshened up with a pair of front wings (My old 2 wings were ruined in storage :( ) I have 5 irmscher soft stars ready to fit, the stereo in the boot i will rebuild do show the 5th softstar spare. I have a rear half roll cage which im unsure whether to fit, along with RS2000 Recaro seats. I also have both pink and grey GSi skirts to choose from.

Any comments, thoughts, opinions welcome. EXCEPT for "stick another turbo lump in there". This is not part of my plan :)

elgan

while i wait for a passenger front wing to appear, the exterior is pretty much on hold. so plan is to get on with engine bay and interior.

heres an up to date picture of the engine bay...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v514/elg4n/8ee73f26.jpg

the engine and gearbox are all clean and painted. whats left is to paint a rocker cover, belt cover, power cap, and distributor.

i plan to paint the rocker and belt covers a metallic silver. the power cap and plug cover in pink, with polished writing on the plug cover.

the filter is just temporary at the moment, but is there such a thing as a cone filter that sits pretty in a nova red top engine bay? :s

by the weekend, the engine should all be painted and refitted, the water pipes plumbed up and a header tank fitted.

Nice too see that this is getting restored.

I used to work for bodyfix who originally strengthened, prepped the shell and later done the bonnet. When it was featured in max power bistros were mentioned and they done quite a few afterwards! He may have some photos of the original build.

Cossie if u don't mind asking for me that would be great. My friend Jamie is close to the guy who built it. I'll probably pay him a visit when it's done. I keep meeting people all the time who have had something to do with creating this car lol

Should b a big update in this dept by end of weekend………

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v514/elg4n/ae3441d2.jpg

elgan
16-10-11, 04:57 PM
Unfortunately i aint got the big update i hoped for. in the mean time i came to the decision on which bumper / intercooler combo i want to use (theres a clue to the big update... ha )

Im going to use the original pace (i believe) intercooler, back in the original position with an uncut gsi bumper.

I need to remove the bumper and recut the bottom straight edge to finish.

Hows this for a stealth turbo front end. it fits together without chopping the slam panel!

Fantastic work mate looking forward to seeing it painted and with a let

elgan
16-10-11, 09:54 PM
Thanks Graeme. I have had a good price for a paint job. It will be basecoat White then pink on top (this is what I did with the engine bay)

Once the new engine is fitted, plumbed and running it will be straight to the paint shop for the car. There really isn't much left to address on the car before it's mot'd and ready for sale :D

Busy day

Made and fitted a couple of new breaklines upfront on the nova

THEN…

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v514/elg4n/0421cde1.jpg

Got the new engine in and pm it's mounts.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v514/elg4n/d6d3a3ad.jpg

Over the week I plan to get the speedo, clutch, throttle cables reconnected. Fit the rad and remaining water pipes. Fit turbo and boost pipes. Etc

Need to find a C20LET ecu as I can't find mine, a pinch clip for the gear linkage rod, and possibly a standard kkk downpipe

If you can help with the above drop me a pm :)

Is this a porsche colour from spies hecker

elgan
18-10-11, 10:51 PM
That's an unusual looking part. The bit I need is just the clamp. The selector rod is a tube and the gearbox linkage slides inside it. Can't quite picture where that bit would go. I'll get the nls part number off epc tomorrow u can reference it with a picture then if u have epc?

As for the colour it has been a spies hecker shade of pink. Not sure if that's the current pink. The engine bay I painted vitara pink over a White base

Yet again I finished the car 2:30am on the Sunday morning before travelling 4 hours to Santa Pod at 7am.

I kept the rebuild and progress to myself, and hoped to add an element of surprise at the show by just turning up in it. I think it worked as many havent seen it for years and didnt expect to see it any time soon!

I had amazing feedback from everyone who came to look closely and despite taking only one pic myself after the sun had gone in, i was pleased to find plenty of other peoples pictures which i have nicked and added to this thread.

The car made the 8 hour round trip and 5 runs up the strip with no dramas at all.

The car is on a standard C20LET ecu, and running i assume standard boost (although the actuator rod is slightly bent). Out of the 5 runs my best time was 14.13, I didnt pick up any slips so unsure of terminals. I had never been on before, but now ive got the bug, i will be back!

Anyway.. These pictures are roughly sorted in order of how it happened. All taken on my phone.

My initial aim was to get the car to a point where it started and ran and was mot worthy. having been off the road 5 years, i wanted to get some road miles in it before i painted etc.

So it begins..

The car previously had a modified turbo inlet and the filter to afm to turbo pipe was full of joins and bends.

I done away with this by trimming away my slam panel

The car was wired and fixed up to a point where it started and moved

Then off it went to my welder friend to join the downpipe to the exhaust system

This picture was saturday lunch time before PVS.. nothing like a last minute rush!

By 2:30 am the car looked like this and was ready to travel!

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v514/elg4n/7c8ddcdb.jpg

I was one very pleased boy, but also very tired. I did the complete job myself from the mechanicals all the way down to the paint. It was my first full respray and in a workshop environment with no dust control or ambient heat. I have been self employed and self taught doing bumper scuffs and alloy wheel refurbs since january this year.

The GSi skirts and boot panel are both paint finished in matching metallic grey with the engine bay. Was happy with how it all came together :)

Hope you have enjoyed your read.

Keep an eye for a for sale thread once a few little jobs are complete.

Also to mention, it now has a full Leather interior fitted again, no pictures of it, but it went in saturday evening before the show

It's got to go to an enthusiast. Any old car is an on going project that must be kept on top of. Thanks for all the good feedback. A16VOO ("lotus" nova) is on the market for something over £5000. I've not set a price myself yet. I am now busy doing my 1983 shell ready for the road. These will all be sold to finish my red nova and begin work on my NEWELY acquired Opel GT :)

Only just left elgans ownership I think so not much happened since. Can tell u lots of history before he had it as I know the guy that built it originally back in the 90's.
