View Full Version : Nova
Thought id put this up now that I have a few good pictures off it. About 3 weeks ago a mate of mine rang me, told me that he was fed up with his nova project he has been doing for over a year, he has spend alot of time on the cars body on the sills and arches ect ect, but unfortunatly he somehow managed to set fire to the dash, so he offered me it at a price I couldnt say no too.
The car is a Nova 1.2 with 38k on. Heres some pics of when I got it.
When we collected it.
http://www.corsasport.co.uk/carimages/10005/loads_of_stuff_094.JPG
And when we got it back, cleaned out all the parts which came with it, GSI Bumpers ect. Wore Dez looking rather chuffed in the pic too
http://www.corsasport.co.uk/carimages/10005/loads_of_stuff_096.JPG
The engine it came with after we stripped wiring off (burnt in fire)
http://www.corsasport.co.uk/carimages/10005/loads_of_stuff_095.JPG
And how good the car is.

Battery tray had took a bit of acid off the battery of when it caught fire. But is still fairly solid.

http://www.corsasport.co.uk/carimages/10005/loads_of_stuff_102.JPG
Then this arrived.
http://www.corsasport.co.uk/carimages/10005/loads_of_stuff_104.JPG
And was fitted with allot of swearing.

http://www.corsasport.co.uk/carimages/10005/loads_of_stuff_106.JPG
Still needs to be welded into position and the front turret ties fitted, its a 8 point cage.
Then these arrived
http://www.corsasport.co.uk/carimages/10005/loads_of_stuff_110.JPG
Which are very shnazzy indeed. Almost new, covered a few hundred miles.
And this nice little bit of kit.
http://www.corsasport.co.uk/carimages/10005/loads_of_stuff_111.JPG
That sit so far and the car now sits like this
http://www.corsasport.co.uk/carimages/10005/loads_of_stuff_105.JPG
Need to sort out internal shifter and straight corsa steering column to be fitted along with a few other bits like seat bars for bucket seats and rear turrets for the coilovers. I will get some pics up of the engine build when it progresses.
Hold Tight for updates

was this mikey airys? sent fire to it welding the splash gaurd ?
I noticed that as well once they arrived...dont really know to make anything on ebay of it though, and yep, was airys, been down and seen him today, he is rather excited that I have it now.
shell looks clean, nice work so far
The other weekend I got the rear coilovers fitted, With some cutting.
Had plates bend up ready for the feet of the cage to be welded into the car.
http://www.corsasport.co.uk/carimages/10005/loads_of_stuff_002.JPG
Nice-but the battery tray is shot-replace it.
The top of the bulkhead will be coming out for engine space, then like you say it will be getting addressed.
http://www.corsasport.co.uk/carimages/10005/stuff_020.JPG
Got my plates made at work to strengthen the sill before the cage is welded in :)
Today I had the day off so set too on the car a bit more, as progress has been rather slow with being at work all the time!
First off I hated the way the steering sits so after reading lee's thread. I went down the same route as he did.
Got a corsa column and started to fit it.
http://www.corsasport.co.uk/carimages/10005/28th_10_2011_005.JPG
Had to make the end of the nova column fit into it so needed to make the bolt pocket bigger
http://www.corsasport.co.uk/carimages/10005/28th_10_2011_006.JPG
Tested where I want it with some string

http://www.corsasport.co.uk/carimages/10005/28th_10_2011_010.JPG
And last weekend after a nice 450mile round trip down to philip2's I got these along with a ported c16xe head, double valve springs and all valve gear and a nice SBD 4-2-1 Exhuast manifold, Still need to take pics off them.
Heres the Bueatys :D

Once I have picked up my bucket seats, I will get them into where I want them, and adjust the steering more, then to tackel the gear shift and hand brake. Lads at work have offered to do all the welding for me for a box of beer which is a absolute toppa!
Oh and these are still Wrapped up in my draws in my room
http://www.corsasport.co.uk/carimages/9336/Nova_016.JPG
That is all
Made some more progress, travelled down to south Yorkshire to pick these seats up from andy forest.
http://www.corsasport.co.uk/carimages/10005/30th_10_2011_003.JPG
So now I can get the drivers posistion better, sit right down on the floor so it should be good :D
http://www.corsasport.co.uk/carimages/10005/30th_10_2011_002.JPG
started to sort out some of the rust and cover metal where I have removed part the bulkhead for the itbs.

How much wiring is involved in fitting that?
24 wires in total the small trip display at the bottom of rev counter will more than likely not be used though.
Nothing much has happend to the nova. Bought a winter car though as im taking my BMW off the road for the winter as it was un drivable last year. Possibly thinking of selling it for audi a3 too.

Those comps look very familiar :wtf: did you buy them off a guy with a white corsa c van? Look like my old ones, if so im surprised the black paint stayed on lol
BMW looks amazing there, never been a fan of those mvs but looks really good. Nice colour aswell :)
Thanks for the comments on the beemer, Will be getting CSL wheels eventully when my mate decides to sell them

Update! Finally started doing the seem welding and plating up where the heaters used to be ect.
I won a welder on ebay at a bargain price, so thought id give it a go my self, instead of taking the car to my work and letting the lads do it properly...sounds stupid I know, but its practice for me and I can say I did it all :0
Not a great pic.
http://a2.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc7/484387_10151035996860802_714490801_12156118_377643 856_n.jpg
Awesome project mate :)
Just a quick note, when using a welder don't use one of those style extension leads fully coiled up! If you take the amps on the welder up towards it's max the cable will get hot, and sometimes when it's coiled up like that it will melt and short out.
Good note! I know this usually but didnt uncoil it...normally do thanks for the comment :)
Bloody Hell....an actual update!
The front arches of the car are the only bad part on the shell, and previous owners attempts werent up to scratch, so that's what I have been tackling.
Previous repairs.
