Hi All,
I have recently bought a Mk1 A reg 1.2L Nova for £250, its bit dusty and surface rust is minimal (nothing a tin of spray and a good day wouldn't sort out) door seals ect ect are immaculate. i was looking to restore it to factory condition and sell or tune for racing but i want to know how rare and what its is worth before i touch it as i cant find many if any on the web and don't want to devalue it by ripping it apart if they are rare. any ideas of a price for a factory original spec and for a tastefully modded one ?

nova's are worth what somebody will pay?

all depends on model, if it has a mot/tax, how much rust it has

I've never understood this "its worth what someone will pay" someone may offer £50 for it but if its in good condition its worth more than that.

If you're worried about devaluing it (hard to do with a Nova, modding it usually adds value, unless you're in Ireland then they're worth more standard) then just do mods that can be removed and the car put back to standard. Clean, factory spec Nova's have been going for between £1000-£3000 but don't expect to get a quick sale for £3000 as you could buy a nice fast-ish car for that and only 100% rust free, original factory spec Nova's command that much, although rarely sell for that much.

If that makes sense.

Thats the thing, it is only worth what someone will pay - thats how value works lol. To the person that put £20k on their tab at Harry's for overnight parts from Japan to build it, yes to them it may be worth £20k in parts BUT if everyone who looks to buy it only offers £50, then is it still worth £20k? Apparently not.

Sure thats an extreme but you get my point. Obviously we can research values and such by looking at similar examples OR - lord forbid - putting up a value we'd like to see, and being prepared to haggle. If you really don't know what its worth, or more importantly what you want for it, put it on ebay with a good write up and see what it makes - the price it fetches is the price its worth. Yes someone may get a bargain OR pay over the odds, but at that point in time the sale value is indeed what the car is worth. If it goes for 99p, then fair game.

If it sells, that implies both parties are happy with the price. If you don't want to sell a £20k car for £50, then don't. If you think you can get £20k for a car you've spent £20k on, good luck - not saying it won't happen, give it a try.

But yeah, whats it worth threads are discouraged by the rules. For the above reasons really lol
